It had most of what I wanted, though truthfully I prefer Call of Duty much, much more, if only because CoD let me go prone. I realize they're not that old as far as PC games are concerned, but they're coming up on a decade in terms of age, so I figured why not play something from that period where we had an absolute glut of WWII games(as opposed to now, where we just don't seem to have any games at all, or at least none that really feel worth checking out).
Medal of honor feels lacking in some aspects especially if you played it after you have experienced CoD. I did play MoH allied assault and its expansion first but played pacific assault after CoD and felt it needed more but the jungle aspect of the games were very good although felt really limited because of a lot of the time I was restricted to narrow jungle passes.
Earlier this year I played through CoD 2 and highly enjoyed it, too bad 3 wasn't on PC because I have no 360 or PS3 and probably the xbox or ps2 versions are subpar. In fact I should give Big Red One or Finest Hour a try, have you played them?
Unfortunately no, I haven't gotten a chance to yet. After the expansion for CoD, I pretty much went straight to 4. I may go back and pick up the others in between though.
As for Allied Assault, I'd say a lot of my problems with it were fixed in the first expansion, Spearhead, like the ability to lean to the left and right in the single player campaign. The missions all had a heavier historical basis, as opposed to many of the fictional one-man invasions in Allied Assault. I tend to prefer levels based on actual events in WWII(which is really funny since I like Wolfenstein), so Spearhead did it well. I had only one level that really pissed me off, my AI partners tended to handle themselves well, and I was given plenty of chances to go it alone for a bit.
And then I got to Breakthrough. This feels like a step backwards to me, mostly because so many missions involve me having to protect someone or something else from getting killed, and its AI is so poor it gets wasted on its own. For instance, in the first section of the Sicily invasion, I had to protect a unit of airborne, in particular one commanding officer. Something screwed up his AI, and so when I finally had killed all but one of the enemies I come across this guy and the last enemy literally orbiting each other frantically in the middle of a field. I kinda wish I had "Yakety Sax" queued up to listen to because it looked like something out of a Benny Hill episode.
Oh well, I'll finish Breakthrough and then it's off to play both Pacific Assault and Airborne. Airborne looks pretty good from what I know of it, I'm hoping it's not a major let down.

That was my bad. I assumed everyone already knows Deus Ex is one of the best games ever.

Their Finest Hour - Battle of Britain
Still one of the best WWII flight sims ever created. It is a big shame that Lucasarts will NEVER rerelease it.

Old School PC games hold up with any other gaming platform and i asume your talking mid 80s-mid 90s there are alot of great space shooters (wingcommander, x-wing, descent), the roots of FPS (doom clones...lol i miss that term hexen, rise of triad) and alot of really interesting RPGs (XCOM rocks play it for sure) , great point and click adventures (kings quest series, and my favorate blade runner) , and alot of FMV games (skip this genre there a pain to get working and well arnt fun have aged porley) though i have found going back to my childhood is a bit of a headache due to me not having a working "oldschool" pc u have to emulate (dosbox) and geting some titles working is just a pain in the butt, and a few i just cant to seem to get to work, however as you get closer to windows XP better shot of the game still working (YAY FALLOUT 1&2!) and another nice point of old pc games is price for the most part they are very cheap due to them not working for the most part anymore

Descent.
You'll need that 6-Degrees of freedom controller to make the experience seamlessly complete though.

Descent is a 3D game where you pilot a ship through several corridores of a mining complex. As a result you can move up, down, left, right, forwards, backwards, which was a huge step up from the standard FPS of the time where it was just moving around a 2D plane in a first person perspective. So one of the things Descent is known for is the disorientation, due to being able to move in any direction along with some clever level design.

What Popo meant to say is DIABOLICAL level design. I just reinstalled Descent 2, after a 9 or 10 year hiatus. It is still just as disorienting as always. It is Magic Carpet on steroids and speed. On the positive side you can buy many of the Descent games from Good Old Games preconfigured.
