Do you worry for the newer gamers?
Re: Do you worry for the newer gamers?
Not really because emulation is available, the games won't go away, but I don't know if the older games will appeal to the newer gamers. At the rate of how games are heading it looks like even last generation will look "bad" compared to the new stuff, people need to back to actual game play instead of only great looking graphics, like an even trade off. I have a Xbox 360, but my 2D stuff is my favorite stuff to collect.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

Re: Do you worry for the newer gamers?
I'm not so sure pre 5th generation games will be forgotten. In fact, the Internet seems like a great tool for keeping them relevant to contemporary gamers. I'm always surprised by how many youtube retro game tributes and reviews there are. I'm also usually surprised by the comments. Of course there are the expected "d00d that g@me sux the graphx r lame," but there are also many positive comments by what appear to be younger gamers.
You also have to consider that many of the current game developers did in fact grow up with the classics, so the artistry of those games can't be entirely lost on them. It seems like indie games are also becoming more common, and quite a bit of those pay homage to the classics.
I'm optimistic.

Personally, If and when I have children, they will have a SNES as kids, a PS2 as pre-teens, and then let them decide what to do as teenagers. I want to at least educate my kids in the ways of the retro (sadly, by then PS2 will be very retro) before sending them off into the land of X-Box 1640s, PS6s, and Nintendo CP2s (Cash Printer 2)...

Same here. I know this sounds dick-ish but it's their own fault that they weren't born then. But really, it does suck that they have to grow up with this generation. Sure these little bastards missed out on some classics but oh well. I mean I had a blast with sonic 3 and Sonic &Knuckles have fun with Sonic and the black knight.....dicks MUHAHAHAHAHA

Re: Do you worry for the newer gamers?
I can see both sides of the story. Tom (the owner of our friendly awesome retro game shop) has said that many of his best costumers are in the 10-15 range. I also see it as people only wanting the newest best amazingest stuff. I mean, they both have a lot to offer! The two games I am playing the most of right now are fallout 3 on the 360 and bionic commando on the NES, everything as it's pros and cons.
Re: Do you worry for the newer gamers?
You know what's even scarier? Some of the best beat em ups are TMNT2 on the NES and Turtles in Time on the SNES. Kids of the future won't have any context as to what makes the games extra awesome.

Re: Do you worry for the newer gamers?
I was just having this converstation earlier tonight.
I play retro systems and my wife said that our kids wont want to play them instead they will want a PS5 or whatever.
I think they will play them because:
1. Its what we have in the house
and
2. Playing the NES with 2 buttons is easier for younger kids to play than the multi button controllers of the current consoles.
So I think my kids will enjoy the NES and Genesis better at a younger age anyway no matter what the current "trendy" system is.

Indeed we are. Then again, people have compared me to an old man since I was 8.
