Like Breakout? Get a Microvision.

GB Micro :)
But NGPC's aren't bad either -- I've been thinking about getting one.
I picked up a Game Gear for novelty's sake. Forgot how big it was....
Gameboy Pocket & Gameboy Lights are kinda cool too.

If you wanna turn heads, get Turbo Express. I had a TG16 as a kid, and I thought it had a better library than my Genesis in some ways (yeah, I said it -- Splatterhouse, Bonks, crazy shmups!).

But to point out the obvious -- it won't exactly turn heads, but the GBA is the best retro handheld ever.

Ok, thanks for all the responses. There's just too many options. Has anyone looked into the GP2X? Its insane. It'll play any emulator which one's up a lot of options.

I think the GBA is, down right, the best portable money can buy. Its basically a "super" Super NES that fits in your hand. The library is rivaled by none other than the DS and its easy to find.

I currently have four Atari Lynx and several games, Crystal Mines 2 being my all time favorate.

Well, the GP2X is a homebrew handheld, not necessarily retro. I recommend the Neo-Geo Pocket Color. It's really cheap, has tons of good games that are very common, and has an awesome joystick in place of a D-Pad. I play mine a lot; many of my favorite fighting games are on the NGPC.

Yeah, I think NGPC seems to get the most love. Are there any good sites to order games from at a decent price?

Also, for anyone who knows (and I know not many people will), my brother is moving back from Tokyo after 4 years. If I could get something (again, a retro portable) through him, where should he go and what should he get?
