I want a sweet retro portable system...

Post by Cronson »

So if I want to pick up an old school portable, which one is the best? I was thinking about Neo Geo Pocket Color since its still fairly easy to buy. I just want something thats going to turn heads and has some decent games (they don't have to be the best). What do you guys recommend? Anyone have a favorite old school handheld?

I'd say neo geo pocket is the way to go.

its got metal slug, kof, Capcom vs SNK, Pacman, Sonic.
i used to play mine all freshman year it turned some people onto SNK Neo Geo.

but if you really want to show off get a Nomad

Maybe you should consider a Turbo Express. Its huge, can't be missed and will most definitely turn heads. The game library is nothing to laugh at either.

Game Axe Color!

It's pretty much the Nomad of Chinese Famiclones, 2P controller port included.

Though I have been wanting to pick up a Virtual Boy lately...

Wait, the Virtual Boy is portable? Maybe if you duct tape it to your head.

I second the Nomad. Not exactly subtle, but worth its weight in awesome.

That's what it was marketed as.

Fan of the AVGN?

I had a TG16 as a kid and loved it. I remember their shooter library being really good. It seems hard to find a Turbo Express though. NGPC is definitely the most intriguing/loved/mysterious. It seems like I might even be able to just buy one off the internet fairly easily. And the Nomad, how hard are they to find? That'd be a great system with its huge library of great games. Ugh! Too many options!

A Nomad'll run you around $30-50, depending on if you get a good deal or they're hard to find in your area. A Turbo Express is going to be much pricier, as will be the games for it.
