The reason I think I like AVGN is because there's some angry nerd in me, and I can feel his pain. Surely we've all sat there playing a shitty, broken game and sworn and hurled a control across the room into a wall? (Maybe I just have anger issues?  )

I can identify with his pain. Also, it's not to be taken seriously. It's more like a parody of the behaviour which I just mentioned.

The other thing I like is seeing his room. All those games and posters. It just gives the impression that he's like me - he loves games. Like, if we had to we could hang out all day just talking about games.

I just love seeing his exasperation after plugging in an old piece of shit game - because it's a feeling I know as well.

The only thing I wish he'd change would be to play fewer licensed games - everyone knows they're going to be shit. I like it better when he digs out "actual game" games that at first glance could be okay, and then exposes them.
For example, instead of reviewing things like Fester's Quest, Wizard of Oz and Batman, do more Mario is Missing and Deadly Towers. Also, the console specific ones like Sega CD, Virtual Boy and Jaguar are pretty good.

I loved the AVGN 3 years ago when it was something new and fresh. Now I'm just a little sick of the fact that youtube has been saturated by a million and one copy cats and it seems to have diluted the experience a little bit for me.

It wasn't the reviews I watched it for, it was the exaggerated insults and the creative ways he could express how a game was shit.

I think a lot of people need to realise that James Rolfe != Angry Video Game Nerd. It's only an online persona, an obscenely exaggerated persona at that. Don't take his reviews as gospel and realise that games and their mechanics back in the 'primitive' days of gaming were sometimes laughably ludicrous. He's not saying retro games fucking suck massive mother fucking donkey dick, ass. He's rediculing things we take for granted now and the rediculous mechanics that were once acceptable in the bygone era of video gaming.

I think the Nerd is at hist best when he gets the exact amounts of reason and emotion. Some episodes are off and they fail because of that.

I would say he triumphs by mixing Refuge in audacity and Refuge in vulgarity at the same time. If he misses one he fails.

well, he's the reason I got into retro gaming. well his collection that is (i'm 22 btw). so i think he has done some good things for the community.

BUT as a comedian, he just isn't good. The nostalgia critic is sooooooo much funnier.

BUT (2) he is a great reviewer. I really think, if he reviewed good and obscure retro games, his show would be a lot better. He could at least make a second persona, one that plays good games, and do that.

Ok so I just watched a bunch of The Nostalgia Critic and I didnt think he was funny at all. There were no jokes and he had no comedic deliver or timing. He was just talking about stuff he didn't like. Even if James Rolfe isn't a comedian he's still funnier and has better jokes.

Hmmm different strokes I guess, but I everytime I watch one of his videos I'm holding my ribs from extreme laughter. His later videos are funnier than the earlier ones though.

Matter of taste.
I find them both funny, but like I said earlier, don't be surprised if they sometimes write each others material.

Plus, they're not trying to be comedians, just trying to be funny and appeal to their audience. There is a difference.

I'm not saying I dont like what he does. I just didnt laugh at it. But it was entertaining since I enjoy the stuff he was talking about. It's just the ultimate to me when I see a comedian I like talk about something I enjoy. Cause then there are strong jokes and the nostalgia factor.
