To his credit, he has a lot of copycats following him.

But I'll still take Yahtzee over him any day

Agree 100%

AVN I enjoy watching because of how old the games are he reviews. that's about it.
Zero punctuation I find much more hilarious.

Yeah, but people need to form there own opinions too. The only time I look to the Internet for opinions is when I go to WSJ. People are far too easily persuaded by things they read on the Internet.

Funny related story. I told one of my friends for over ten years that I just bought a lot of a dozen sega cd games. He replied "You must have the whole sega cd library then, because I don't know a single person who would play more than ten games of that tripe". That said, the same guy sold me a mint condition copy of Secret of Mana and two mint copies of FF7, one with the masterpiece misspelling, and one without, both black labels, for $50 total.

He says specifically that his reviews are only comical with a glimpse of truth. He even says that some games he reviews negatively, he actually may like. He only focuses on the negative for comical effect.

He's actually the reason I play older games, still:

One day, I was browsing i-am-bored.com (which I do all the time) and found the AVGN NES accessory video. I thought it was cool and I watched all his other videos. I got curious about all these games so I dusted off my genesis and N64 and bought an NES. Then I got addicted to older games and found them to be cheaper than newer games (and sometimes more fun).

This is me watching AVGN

-Click on the link to random episode
-Ignore his opinions, they're usually biased
-Focus on the background of his room, check out collection
-get one or two cheap laughs per episode
-Focus on the collection more

I pretty much only watch it for the presence of obscure retro games. Even though he bred a species of gamer I'm ashamed to on occasion be associated with. People who have no clue about the gaming world and whatnot.

I would agree with that -- he does seems like a cool guy as himself. I'm just not much for the AVGN character.

If you watch his first AVGN segment, before it was even officially called anything, it shows you the difference in quality. I enjoyed his rant about Castlevania 2. It was funny, informative, and focused on the gameplay. In fact, I think I'll go watch it now...

I am jealous of his collection. I like his console reviews the best. Even though i have a 32x
and would not sell it. I like him bashing the ridiculous of the genesis being gang raped by the 32x and sega cd. By the way how do any of you solve the power issue hooking up all three? i have to use a sideways surge protector and thats all I can fit.

You liking this guy makes me want to never watch AVGN again. Honestly, it's 15-18 year olds like you that give anybody under 18 a bad name. I do think AVGN somewhat witty and is funny at times, but sometimes it's just like he is beating a dead horse now.

the funniest thing he ever said in my opinion was "this is the sega cd, its a load of ass" i dont know why, i just really enjoyed that line. other than that, like i said, he's ok, not great.
