Considering how broken KOF is in so many ways SF4 seems that much better to me now. SNK makes a good fighting system, but their oresentation and online are just garbage,
Actually my favorite versions of SF3 are the original and double impact.

Regardless of version though SF3 just hit everything right the first time and only improved from there, unlike SF4 with it's functional but broken feeling that you get while playing it.

Where were you guys when I first started denouncing SF4 around the console launch, and everyone kept telling me I was insane? I always loved the visual style, but hated just about everything else I watched of it.

I've always proclaimed that SF:IV was broken ever since I first laid hands on it.

To quote my earlier post in this thread:
To me it never truly feels like a Street Fighter game, the lack of assigned stages, themes, and being able to train on a stage of your own choosing (Fuck the training stage) killed it for me. Not to mention I didn't find the gameplay nearly as fluid as any of the 2D entries in the series.

Yeah, I don't remember my post, but when I first played the game at an in-store demo, the first thing I thought was "Wow. This is a huge step backwards." and "It feels just like SF2."

btw gradualmeltdown = who the hell is talking about KOF? We're talking about Street Fighter IV, and how disappointing it was to us. Even SFA and SFIII: New Generation floored me more than SF4 has, and considering Capcom has a wealth of experience and they've been out of the fighting game sector for almost a decade, they needed to come back hard. They fell short, and in my eyes, by a lot.

Well, I just got SFIV through the $20 Steam deal going on this weekend.

So far, I really like it, and largely for the reason a lot of you are complaining about it-- it's basically Street Fighter II in 3D. I haven't really been heavy into a fighter since SFII was all the rage in the arcades and later on the SNES (I used to play on the SNES X-Band modem). I never quite liked the way the Tekken/Soul Calibur/Dead or Alive games transitioned to 3D (virtua fighter, I did like though). I like those games, but they never quite felt right to me because I had played so much SFII. So, I faded out of the fighter scene for quite a bit. Street Fighter IV feels like a resurgence to me. I like the amped up 3D effects, though I think the characters are too beefy looking. I'm enjoying the prospect of being able to play challenging human opponents again online and still have my old SFII techniques hold a little weight (though there are clearly new timing issues and specials that gamers can exploit). Anyway, my first impression is good, though I haven't played for more than an hour. I guess I'll need more time to decide if I agree that the game is as broken and unbalanced as some of you say.

I don't mind that SF4 doesn't feel like a 3D Fighter. In fact, I'm very glad it does still feel like a 2D Fighter. What I don't like is that it feels just like SF2. The Alpha series and III series were each very distinctive and really stood on their own, while playing SF4 back-to-back with SF2HD left me feeling like I never changed games at all.
