There is a September tournament in Tokyo. The first day of matches is on September 13 and runs until Sept. 27 (Sunday to Sunday). There is also one in November in Fukuoka (southern Japan near Nagasaki like 12 hours from Tokyo) from November 15 - November 29th (also Sunday to Sunday)RadarScope1 wrote:Sumo - that's a great idea! Would there be any matches happening in the fall?
When I was in Ireland I really wished I could have gone to a hurling match. I knew nothing of the game before I went (a year ago at this time) but found it pretty interesting. Looks like a great game.

If you do go to Sumo, here is what I would recommend. In the start of the day are just the amateur matches, but if you don't know anything about Sumo and don't know any names, they're just as fun. Most people arrive in late afternoon for the best matches, so most of the really good seats up front are empty all day. So what you want to do is arrive at the ticketbooth at 8am (or as soon as it opens) and buy the cheapest ticket they have. These are the nosebleed seats and they sell quick, but you'll never actually be there. Then go out have breakfast/lunch, go out see a site or two and come back around 11 or something. Once you are in the venue just go down to the best/closest seats you see available. If the ticket holder shows up just move back. No one will give you any problems at all. We were in these booths of 4 all day, kind of like box seating. We were close up and had an incredible time watching the matches.
