Got some 2 player gaming in on Layer Section, Under Defeat and "Mobile Light Force 2" *snicker*.
Layer Section was great. Really holds up well in coop. The radically different colored red and blue ships really help cut down on the confusion when the bullets start flying. Your lock on lasers are limited to 4 instead of 8, forcing you to work together. The difficulty appears to ramp up a little faster, too. Almost made it to the end of level 5 on one credit while my friend credit fed as his life depended on it. LOL
Under Defeat held up just as well. The game is actually easier. The enemy count and difficulty doesn't seem to be affected at all by having 2 players. This made some of the later levels a breeze. My friend fared a lot better in this game. It actually convinced him to Dreamcast shop.
"Mobile Light Force 2" did not fair so well. The lack of a TATE mode didn't help. Things got crowded quick and both of us were loosing track of our characters.

Just installed Homebrew Channel and grabbed Super Star Shooter on the Wii.
Also playing Recca and Guardian Legend. The music really makes these games.

I played some Zero Gunner 2 (DC) last night. Game is awesome. Still haven't been able to beat it, though.

Buy it - you dirty pikey. SHMUP developers need all support they can get, both commercially, and as evidence of market interest - this is a dying genre.

Is it? To me, shmups seem to be faring much better now than a few years ago, thanks mostly to digital distribution.

I'm playing Nanostray on my DS right now, as well as Zero Gunner 2 on my Dreamcast. Both very addictive shmups, and very fun.

Maybe, but digital distribution still means bugger all if people pirate digital downloads - more sales = more SHMUPS... simple as...

Lords of thunder [scd]. I love the sound track. I know turbo duo version is better but I cannot afford one right now.
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Thunder Force IV (or Lightening Force!) and Imperishable Night. I just realized I havent been playing shmups for the past few months and need dust off what little skills I had.
Boy I tell you what, are those some god dang video games?
