For something really classic, a lot of people like MULE

Actually I've been meaning to check out the NES version of MULE for ages, I'll add it to the list!

Will check Mech Warrior 2 & 3 also.

Of course I think they are great, just that the actual game engines are pretty ropey. I'm looking for something that graphics aside, its still totally a blast to play :)

I played a lot of Settlers on my Amiga. Good stuff but not in the mood for that.

Will download the remake of Lode Runner, nice one, thanks.

I've completed Chips Challenge :)

Descent and Abuse added the list, thanks.

I would also suggest finding a copy of Descent Freespace. If you're looking for an RPG of some kind, the original Baldur's Gate has always been a favorite of mine. I also really enjoy titles like Zone 66, Escape Velocity, or Solar Winds.

but i say you play

HALF LIFE

its probably the pc game i've had for the longest and never beat.

I agree, the original half life 1 is a great game! I liked the add on packs for it as well, in Blue Shift you play as the security guard Barney?, and in Opposing Force you play as the military sent in to destroy the facility!

I also recommend Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. I'm not sure why but I still love coming back to this game, the ones that came after just weren't as good...
I still love the level where you are on the crashing ship and everything keeps changing orientation and you have time limit to get through it before it crashes.

Mmm...you know, I still haven't played the sequel to Dark Forces. But the first one was really good, I do need to go look it up...
