You do realize that, technically, you don't HAVE to shoot in first person in MGS2, right?

I wrote a whole article on why MGS1 is superior to Twin Snakes, if you're interested, you ought to take a read.

Basically the original PSone game was a superior PSone title than Twin Snakes was (a superior Gamecube title) on the Gamecube. Along with what's been mentioned already, Twin Snakes was a rather fugly game, particularly in terms of texturing and modeling. Also if you're going to play through the series, it's better to move from MGS1->MGS2 as the added mechanics in MGS2 are naturally better adapted to MGS2, plus it's a tall ask for players to learn the complexities of MGS2 in one hit. There's also the game breaking edits. For example; you can defeat Ocelot in the first confrontation in less than 5 seconds flat (no joke).

On the otherhand, the voice acting is redone and quite good.

It wasn't that the scenes were ridiculous themselves, because Metal Gear is filled with them, but it was the fact that Snake is doing them. Like dodging bullets and doing backflips over flying rubble. Raiden or Grey fox could ride the missiles, sure, but Snake is not a cyborg ninja.

Exactly.

Considering that Snake was dodging and outrunning bullets, fucked up a tank, did a Sniper duel against one of the most accomplished assassins twice, switched his controller to port two, and destroyed a helicopter and walking nuke launcher. Riding a missile is nothing.

I'm sure there's parts were you have to. Especially with sleeping darts. If the don't hit in the head they won't fall asleep as quickly and then it'll be to late.

I think the GameCube version could've been much better than the original but there were some things that were done to the game (and not done to the game) that kept it from doing so:

Music +/- Members of Foxhound had their own individual boss themes and was no longer bogged down by the same old universal boss theme that existed in the ps1 version. Also the Alert theme was pretty cool. Some of the other themes however were kinda lame; especially when they replaced some of the more epic themes with generic techno music.

Cut scenes +/- Another hit and miss. Some of the new cut scenes in the game were so good that they render the scenes in the previous version totally forgettable. Then there were others that were really cheesy and downright silly.

Level Layouts - This is the biggest problem I had with this "revamp." Taking Metal Gear Solid 2's game play (wall hanging, crate climbing, first person shooting, holding soldiers at gun point, tranquilizers, etc.) and combining it with environments that were totally made for original Metal Gear Solid game play, does not work. The environments in the original game were very small and condense with very little interactivity. The levels in Twin Snakes, while given a fresh coat of MGS2 paint, did not receive the kind of revamp it needed to accommodate the versatile MGS2 game play. As a result there was very little opportunity to take advantage of Snakes MGS2 moves. And when there was an opportunity, it made getting across a level much easier than it should have been i.e., just hope across the balcony to reach the exit right below.

Another aspect of the game that needed a redo is the enemy count. Just like the first game, each level has a total of three guards on patrol. With only three enemies in any given area, there was very little reason to given Snake all of those cool MGS2 moves. Of course you can't have more than three guards on patrol unless you're willing to make the levels much bigger, which goes back to my previous issue on the level design. It just made disposing of enemies much easier that it was suppose to be.

BTW; sorry for the long post. It's Sunday afternoon and I'm bored as hell http://www.racketboy.com/forum/posting. ... =2&t=13351#

I preferred the Cube version.

Though, as someone who played MGS3 first, the downgrade in controls kind of made it hard to play MGS:TS

Why did you start with 3?
