Why do most people say MGS1 is better on PS1?
Re: Why do most people say MGS1 is better on PS1?
I got Twin Snakes a few days ago for 24$ and was extremely excited to play it. I bought a gamecube today and quickly got home to play it. I put it in. Played for about an hour and I'm not sure how I feel. I really like being able to play mgs like it was sons of liberty. I am also very irritated by a lot of the changes. The one that sticks out the most currently, is the panic music which no longer sounds nearly as intense and harsh as the original ps1 version. They replaced it with this generic feeling action music that doesn't induce the panic that the original did. What also saddens me is that I absolutely hate the gamecube controller. It feels to me like a cheap tonka toy. My finger is to big for the d pad and I hate both the shape/size/placement of nearly all the buttons. I have a ps2 to gamecube/xbox controller adapter which I plugged in immediately. I had not realized the gamecube controller was not pressure sensitive so I struggled to figure out how to put my gun down after aiming without firing it. This is accomplished by holding the gun up with a while aiming in first person, then, at the same time, sliding your finger up to the y button which puts it back down. Then came using the codec and menu. After giving up on trying to figure out why I could'nt bring up the codec, I summoned the manual, which I can't ever remember doing before. You have to hold start and push either a or b at the same time to go to the map or codec. After becoming frustrated with the controls I have stopped playing. I currently feel that the original was better, but I've only played an hour and will make a final decision once I have completed Twin Snakes.

My only experience with the Gamecube version was some of the cutscenes I had seen on youtube, and they struck me as ridiculous compared to the original.
Incorporating some elements from MGS2 seems like it would make the game easier than it was intended to be. That doesn't bother some people, but the original wasn't that hard so I don't think its difficulty needed to be brought down more. I've made the same complaint in the past about how the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 was basically the dumbed down version. Great for anyone who has already played it on the Gamecube and wants something a little different, but I don't personally believe it should be someone's first exposure to RE 4

I can't stand Twin Snakes, plus I had such difficulty with the controls I couldn't get passed the first hangar. I just gave up because I was so frustrated with the controls and the soldiers spotting me from the other side of room.
I much prefer the original, played it through at least 8 times. Awesome game. Twin Snakes just feels wrong for some reason.

I find it increasingly irritating having to push two buttons to bring up the codec/map. I don't quite understand why the start button wasn't either the codec or map, with an option to go to the other.

Well I guess I'm weird. I love both. If you're going to bitch about rocket riding, then you need to also bitch about all the other ridiciulous moments in the game, and sequels. You cant be a hypocrite about these things.

and the ps1 could actually pass as a high tech gizmo, with it's shape and grey colouring. the gamecube looks like a rejected fisher price toy (I loved the machine to death, but it's true)

Hey now, the Jet Black cube is very classy and the Indigo one is iconic; it's the silver piece of crap I have problems with.ZeroAX wrote:Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Yup, and there's now a Gamecube on the desk in Otacon's lab instead of a PlayStation like before as well.
