What do you think the next Nintendo portable will be?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I would expect the next to be just downloads. Like what iTunes has done for music, or Netflix has done for movies.

Nintendo has gone out of their way to make WiFi available at public places, so it would only make sense that they could now stop developing cartridges/cards.

I don't particularly want to get a R4 type thing, I heard they can break your systems. The owner of the game store I go to showed me a pile of DS's that were all bricked by R4's. He also said one guy actually got 2 DS's bricked.
Dude's probably just bullshitting you because flash cards hurt his business. R4 did once threaten to brick clones using their firmware. Easy solution, if you buy a clone, use the firmware they provide. Or better yet, buy an original DSTT, Easyflash V, etc. and you won't have any problems.

20 bucks it will be backwards compatible but the old DS games will halfway stick out.

How do you know if it is real or a clone?

Um... There's a big difference in capabilities and architecture between the GBA and the Game Boy Color. It's similar in scale to the difference between the SNES and NES or the Genesis and the SMS, except that the GBA is more powerful than the SNES or Genesis and the GBC was at best an equal to the SMS and NES, at works an inferior system. In fact, the jump from the N64 to the GC is about right for the jump from the GBC to the GBA.

Didn't Nintendo relese that pic years ago when the DS was still floundering and then slowly forget about it wh the DS took off after the Lite came out?

If I remember correctly it was called the 'GameBoy Next' and was supposed to be backwards compatible with GCN games and new exclusive software through its slot drive and older GameBoy titles via a download service ala Virtual Console.

To my knowledge it is a fan mockup. I know some of the guys at Benheck tried to build one a couple years ago, but they deemed it to hard for what they were stuck with. It was going to be alot thicker since they could only do so much with the Gamecube motherboard.

Thing is, it'll have to be backward compatible with DS games, since that's kind of Nintendo's thing. How can they do that with just one screen? I think they're stuck making double-screened handhelds for some time.
