Another thing I thought of today... maybe you could split up games that are ONLY single players from 2 player games. I'm on a SNES beat 'em up kick right now, like I said, and that's one of the things on my mind. There are tons of good ones like Batman Returns, The Ninjawarriors, Final Fight 1, etc, that are only 1 players. They're awesome games, but I'm also looking to get in on some 2 player action.

Unfortunately it's on hiatus at the moment, as I've been sidetracked with other stuff I've been working on for Racket. I'll talk to him about what to do after this project, and see if he's interested in leting me continue it.

Add me to the list of people who are looking forward to this article whenever it sees the light of day!

As far as differentiating between genres, perhaps I'm a bit strict but I've always considered a game to be a beat 'em up if it is primarily hand-to-hand fighting, a hack n slash if it's primarily weapons-based. There are very few games where this rule is blurry (like Sengoku 3 :))
