Re: RIP Michael Jackson: King of Pop
I wasn't there for the hay-day of the Michael Jackson phenomenon, but it's still impossible to deny his impact on music. Pop will never be as good as when this magnificent man moon walked on to the scene, music videos will never be as epic, dance moves will never be as eye catching, and music will never be as infectious as this mans best. I honestly can NOT resist dancing when listening to Billie Jean... or really one of his chart toppers. He never trifled with his fame, he never used used profanity or glorified violence or horrible lifestyles to garner success, (at least not to today's standards, it was all rather PG) had the press never intervened, he would have been a perfect role model, specially for me as someone else who has vitiligo, seeing as he could get past it. I find the few splotches i have on my skin embarrassing, I would be mortified to have it to his degree. He was and will always be a legend.
There's always going to be controversy surrounding the man, and while I firmly believe that the man was innocent of all outstanding accusations, he did have a rough, rough life that lead to the skewed portrait he became. Joe Jackson never gave him a chance. Being pushed at such a young age in that direction towards that lifestyle, and I mean pushed, well, I'm surprised he came out as strong as he did. I'll never truly understand all that went through his head, but if he was able to move past all the crap from his days in the Jackson 5 to become an icon of such proportions, well it only shows what an amazingly capable human being he was.
MJ, rest in peace, you deserve it more than most ever had. Rest in peace.

Re: RIP Michael Jackson: King of Pop
I think people are forgetting to match Jackson's work with the time of history he presented it in.
This work was in 82 and 84 , thats like before the NES !!
And today the music and performance is still amazing.
All of that was happening before the internet and the rise of the CD's and having something global is a real problem its not like today news are transfered within seconds . You REALLY got to give him credit when you compare it to the time of presentation.
I guess for you, think of OoT being out not in '98 but in '78!

Re: RIP Michael Jackson: King of Pop
I kind of agree with that. I mean there are many negative things you can say about MJ and everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but just as a performer, the guy was amazing. I don't see anyone in pop today even in his league, which is sad really. I mean who is the biggest name in pop now? Britney Spears and all of her clones. I'm actually glad that it's okay to talk about MJ's impact on music again. Too bad about farrah fawcett and Ed McMahon though. You get the feeling that the media just doesn't really give a crap about them passing on

Re: RIP Michael Jackson: King of Pop
It is very similar to when Groucho Marx died three days after Elvis; Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, and now Billy Mays, all will be glazed over by the media. Farrah actually might dodge this since she has that amazing documentary.
Michael Jackson is now with Freddie Mercury. Two of the greatest performers of all time, both taken far too early.

Re: RIP Michael Jackson: King of Pop
It's just about sinking in now that he's gone and I'm genuinely upset, like I've lost a family member or something. It's crazy, I never met him, I never even saw him in the flesh. I just can't believe it or justify what I'm feeling right now with words.
