Crisis Force on NES. I'm not really into shmups, but this one's pretty good.

Right now, Triggerheart Exelica. I play Castle of Shikigami 3 every once in a while.

Under Defeat - Dreamcast

I'm trying to get better at this one. But I keep dying in the same spots. *shrug*

I am usually seen playing these fine games:

The Touhou series (PCB, EoSD, IN, etc.)
Gradius series (particularly 3)
Zero Wing (Crappy translation aside, it is one of my favorite shooters of all time, its like R-type without the bullshit respawn at the first of the level)
1943
Axelay and Lifeforce (which are perfect for those who like side-scrolling AND top down.)

U.D. is a deceptively hard game, IMO just try to save your bomb stock for those spots and work on that panic bomb reflex.

you can shim the inside of the microswitches to shorten the throw on the joystick, it works wonders for shmups. see (I only did the shims, I did not tape the shaft, and it works really well. I also like the feel of an octogon gate which can be obtained from lizardlick.com for $5)
Thanks for the tip. I actually did shim one of the microswitches because the throw was a little longer than the other 3 (odd, I know). This helped greatly with diagonals on that side for fighting games. I have kind of gotten used to the larger deadzone but I was thinking about going with a Seimitsu LS 32-01 (the HRAP2SA has a mounting bracket for it). Any experience or suggestions? I heard they are usually used for shmups and Japanese MVS cabinets. An arcade nearby has an MVS cab with some LS 32s in it and they do seem to have a tighter deadzone. Input response seems the same as the Sanwas.

yeah that's really what you'll feel as the difference is the smaller dead/center zone. They're good sticks for shmups, many players prefer them. It's all personal preference really, but a small dead zone can be good for last second "oh shit" dodges.

They are mountable in the HRAP sticks, you have to rotate either the PCB or mounting plate. http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=132472
