New version of Project 64?
Re: New version of Project 64?
Gotta agree with Arion. I am 100% pro emulation but the N64 just isnt the best console to emulate. The controller is a must and too many games run shitty on PJ64.
Re: New version of Project 64?
I like emulation to a point, but if you compare emulated games to actual games, it is a bit different... Like the sound recreation isn't always accurate, obviously you cannot get all of the benefits from using a controller unless you have a usb adapter... not to mention all of the slight graphical differences. Plus you aren't as immersed in the game, because instead of going and turning off the console and taking out the cart, etc, you only hafta close the window.
I dunno... I love emulation for the ability to spread classic games to the masses, but I prefer the real deal if possible
Maybe I'm a snob too since I grew up playing em all physically heh....

Re: New version of Project 64?
That is exactly how I feel regarding emulation of old classics great for masses but I too prefer the real deal if possible. Then again I'm more hardcore retro towards having original stuff..Xonticus wrote:I like emulation to a point, but if you compare emulated games to actual games, it is a bit different... Until flash carts became common emulation was also really nice for all those Japanese games (usually RPGs) that never made their way over here.

Re: New version of Project 64?
sure the original thing is better, but as I said, storage space and all the wires is a killer.
I got 1 laptop, 1 wii, 1 360, 1 tv, 1 vcr, 1 dvd, 1 tv receiver, and wires are going crazy in my room
I can't see how it will work with N64, Genesis, Dreamcast, and ps2 including their games to store.
You get the idea?
emulation is really good enough

Yeah, rocking out with a bunch of game systems leaves you with a setup that looks something like this:kingmohd84 wrote:sure the original thing is better, but as I said, storage space and all the wires is a killer.

And then several DVD shelves for the games. It's not bad to do at all, though I recommend a nice universal remote like the Logitech Harmony for keeping track of which settings on the TV and the switch boxes you need.

Why the hell is it that whenever there's a thread on this forum talking about an emulator, there's always some fuck head saying that the "real thing is better", fueling a debate about which is better?

Agreed. It's one of those perpetual thread-killer subjects.GSZX1337 wrote:*facepalms*

Re: New version of Project 64?
You do realise you needn't take part in the discussion if you don't like it?
As for PJ64 I simply dislike it.. I've been using 1964 and Mudlord's Rice video plugin for years but it's been proven that the N64 will probably never be fully emulated. Which is strange since its architecture isn't that perplexing compared to the Saturn for instance. Historically speaking you could get playable speeds on a Pentium Pro back in the day but real progress has slown to a halt after 2000 or so.

I realize that there was a valid question when this thread was made, but now we've got a bunch of fools arguing over something completely pointless and unrelated.Pulsar_t wrote:You do realise you needn't take part in the discussion if you don't like it?![]()
