another 'help me burn Saturn games' thread
Re: another 'help me burn Saturn games' thread
maybe i'm wrong, but wouldn't we be able to see in the pix he posted if it is needs to be filed down? i don't think i've ever had to do that
Re: another 'help me burn Saturn games' thread
Well, he shouldn't have to file it down since it's already in there, but the reason for filing down the side of the part that plugs in is to get the chip to fit easier. This not only helps with getting the chip in and out without breaking it, but also makes the contacts to align right.

Which Saturn mod chip version does he have? I know of three sources: racketboy, angelfire, and consolegoods.uk.
Re: another 'help me burn Saturn games' thread
Looks like the ones consolegoods.co.uk is selling.
EDIT: This picture tells me that you might want to mess around with that ribbon cable that is taped down. Just a troubleshooting hunch, but my guess it there is a reason it's taped down just so. Try pressing down on it a little bit and see what happens...maybe the tape just came loose.

I have the consolegoods one as well that I bought a month ago. I finally got around to installing it last night. The chip wasn't working for me and it would make the game CD appear like an audio CD. I looked at the instructions several times on the Rob's page and finally realized that I needed to solder a connection on the backside of the chip board to make it v14 or v19. I'll try it out tonight.lwcook wrote:Looks like the ones consolegoods.co.uk is selling.

There's no signal wire to solder on this board. Just power and the backside board version selector. Then you connect the cables.
You might want to contact some retro gaming stores in your area to see if they have Saturn games. I know I got a couple for $3 each so it's useful for testing.
Where did you get your modded Saturn from? Was it consolegoods? Rob appears to be selling some.
Re: another 'help me burn Saturn games' thread
I've tried everything. I cleaned the connections. I took out the modchip and plugged the ribbon directly in. I pressed down on things. I replaced the tape. Nothing makes that disc spin. This is honestly frustrating beyond belief. I paid 175 USD for this bundle and it literally is no more than a brick. Is this thing broken or something?
Note: Now the startup screen (little glass pieces flying together) doesn't appear, sometimes it doesn't care about the lid being open or there even being a disc. It just says checking disc format. And then nothing. The laser no longer even moves.

Send it back if you can. Either get a refund or have the seller fix the issue...for $175 I would definitely want one or the other.

If there is any way to fix it, I would greatly prefer to do that since it was shipped from Hong Kong. If I do have to do that though, what do I do? Do I even have a case?lwcook wrote:Send it back if you can. Either get a refund or have the seller fix the issue...for $175 I would definitely want one or the other.

In my humble judgement, there is most likely a repair solution here. I don't think it's bricked, lots of people have had a problem with getting the drive spinning, including me. In my case, I just had to clean the lens and if I recall correctly, I had to move the laser just a teeny tiny bit. If your console is definitely turning on, then you should probably ask your friednly neighborhood game store. Checking out the comments on the guides here on Racketboy, it looks like a common problem~!

I think you're right. I'm talking to the guy right now and he's being really helpful. He found and referred me to this site- http://www.segastyle.com/troubleshoot.html . My problem seems the be the ribbon connection one (red spheres), although it wasn't originally. That's what I get for tinkering I suppose. I'll keep you guys posted if I manage to fix it (for posterity's sake).Ifran wrote:In my humble judgement, there is most likely a repair solution here.
