Crappy Anti-Aliasing, the sound effects are slightly, generally looser controls, and some of the graphics are missing (mostly small background stuff)..MyNESstayFR3SH wrote:Talking about it makes me wanna go home and play it, give it another try but all I have is the GC gems collection. Is it a big diffrence from the SCD original? (i know you mentioned bugs but having not played the original, I can't tell)Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:What sucks about Sonic Gems Collection is that the version of Sonic CD included on the disc is a buggy port of the PC version, not the original SEGA CD version.
EDIT: Fixed spelling.

Re: Sonic CD
I have a few games for the Sega CD, but one of the coolest things about it is 0% copy-protection. You just burn up an image, and toss it in there and play. Sonic CD is pretty badass, although the whole Past/Future thing throws me off, I just try to finish the level as soon as possible. The "good" ending is no different than the "bad" ending in the last 2 seconds of the final FMV.
Intellivision, Atari 2600, Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Sega Master System, Genesis, 32x, CD, Saturn, DC, PSOne, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, GB, Game Gear, Sega Nomad, Virtual Boy, GBA, DS, PSP.

Seeing that reminds me of how much I hated those damn special stages. Trying to time the jumps to destroy the UFOs was like having a prostate exam. Also, you get the rings from the destroyed UFOs.Curlypaul wrote: Also, the special stages are pretty dire. How the hell do I attack the UFOs and where are the rings that I can apparently collect?

Re: Sonic CD
Sonic CD is unique, and definately an aquired taste of sorts. You can just ignore the Robotisizer machines if you collect all the Time Stones, as those automatically make all futures good and have the easier versions for the remainder of the game. Tips for the Special Zones are as follows:
Rule #1 stay out of the water, it rapidly drains your remaining time in the Special Zone.
Rule #2 Try to anticipate the movemnt patterns of the test pods and jump when they are going to be within striking distance.
Rule #3 When you get low on time, a stationary blue test pod appears, destroy it to gain more time to go after the moving purplish grey ones. It reappears everytime the time gets low, so hit it as often as you need to stay in the Zone to keep trying.
Rule #4 Never forget rule #1, make sure you avoid the water at all costs.
That should help a little bit. Sonic CD has some memorable moments, among my favorites being the race to the death encounter with Metal Sonic at the end of the Stardust Speedway Zone. When I was a kid, I played the game every time I went over to my friend's house. I loved it, but never owned it myself until the Sonic Gems collection on the Gamecube. Good luck, and remember the aquired taste bit, the game actually grows on you over time.
