It's too early to make a judgment. This is why devs hate showing videos well before release, even if they are missing out on some hype. Three minutes of test footage hit the Web and people make snap judgments (which is human nature, but still).

I believe SotC's flaws owed more to Ueda's team reaching beyond their grasp on the hardware than anything. The concept and vision for the game were solid. I believe they'll give us something good next time, too. We'll just have to wait for it.

Well, in all fairness, they never said it would be another SOTC.

They've been straight forward about the fact that this third game will be more reminiscent of ICO, which is just as good, IMO. However, if you go back and watch the early beta trailers for both ICO (HERE) and especially SOTC (NICO HERE), you'll notice things tend to change quite a bit from the final versions.

I wouldn't throw in your towel just yet...

Though it was just test footage to show what they can do, seeing all them dudes running around made me think... Multiplayer would kick ASS or online. Nico is a terrible name btw(I know it was a project name but still.)

One another note... I've personally never played ICO. Is it worth picking up and checking out?

Ico was brilliant in my opinion. It was far ahead of its time and still outclasses about ninety percent of the games out there today. Many games have tried to capture that Ico/Yorda dynamic where they actually got players to care about an AI character and just failed completely(the latest Prince of Persia game comes to mind). The few fights in the game really drew you in too, while combat in Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia games these days just seems pointless and tacked on. Fumita Ueda is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliant designers out there and makes most game designers today look like the hacks they really are. I'm looking forward to this next project of his.

I'm definitely going to get a PS 3 soon. Looking at what's out now and what's to come in the future, it looks like what it lacks in quantity it it making up for in quality. Some great exclusives on there like Infamous, God of War 3, Valkyrie Chronicles and now this.

It's short and doesn't have a lot of replay value. You can also get stuck on puzzles for a long time and without any music in most areas of the game, this can occassionally feel like a drudgery. People also have kind of a love/hate reaction to having to hold Yorda by the hand and protect her throughout the game. If you don't think these things will ruin it for you, then by all means get it. Ico is a masterpiece.

I am not an ICO fan. I think that game was far too much artsy bullshit, and far too little gameplay. SOTC found the proper balance. Yes I've seen both of those beta videos, and I've been longing for a multiplayer SOTC. The dynamics of the battles with multiple heroes would be amazing. When it's just you versus the colossus, there's really only 1 or 2 ways you can fight each boss.

I feel like I should be excited about this one, but it looks like it could be too heart warming and adventurous for an ICO/SOTC spiritual successor.

I don't know, like it could be missing that cold eerie stillness.
