Ok, reworking the list. Here's what I'm now thinking:
1. Marathon 2
2. Dementium: The Ward
3. Call of Duty: World at War
4. Corpse Party
5. Tex Murphy: Mean Streets
6. Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
7. Sniper Elite
8. Powerslave
9. Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
10. Duke Nukem Forever
Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

For all the stuff you're not going to like about Marathon 2, you're going to LOVE dual-wielding sawed off shotguns. They make things dead very quickly and it feels GOOD.

Listen. I love this soundtrack. I have so many thoughts about this soundtrack. It is probably my favorite on the NES/Famicom. And I know how hard this game is, and how skilled of a technical gamer you are. What a fated match. I cannot WAIT to hear your thoughts as you go through it. I am practically already pouring out the bowls of chips for this.

If you're gonna replace something, please make it with this one. I treasure this game. And also its soundtrack. It is an extremely good time.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2026 - PRESS I FOR INVENTORY
All right friends, here's my list. I'm actually amazed at how quickly it came together.
CORE:
1. Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future (DC)
2. Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town (GBA)
3. Knuckles' Chaotix (32X)
4. SimTower (DOS)
5. Adventure Island II (GB)
BONUS:
6. Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar (NES)
7. Theme Park (GEN)
8. Ecco the Dolphin (GG)
9. Neo Contra (PS2)
10. ???
I'm going for Veteran Mode, with the hopes of finishing at least five of these. I'll make another post later as to the significance of each, because they're all fairly important and/or nostalgic in some way or other.
That open #10 slot, though... I've recently gotten very interested in the Wii, and would love to hear some recommendations for a good Wii pickup to try out. If you are so moved, make your pitches, please. My appreciation in advance.

Nahh, stick with it. It's pretty unique and worth a play.prfsnl_gmr wrote: ↑Fri Jun 12, 2026 10:48 amThanks for the warning. Should I swap it out for one of these?
@Key, here's some suggestions for the Wii that you don't already have:
- Kirby's Return to Dreamland
- Punch-Out!!
- Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2026 - PRESS I FOR INVENTORY
1. Mega Man Legends (PS1)
2. Star Control 2 (3DO)
3. Sonic CD (MCD)
4. Radiant Silvergun (SAT)
5. Grandia II (DC)
So I've been playing Mega Man Legends a bit over the past week (I'd actually started it the day before this thread was posted!) and am making some good progress I think. I saved the town from some pirates, and now I'm exploring the 3 sub-gates looking for treasure. I have finished the first of the three and then quickly realised that all of the underground sections I've visited so far are actually connected, and I can get around quite a lot of them now I have some high jump boots.
It's a fun time so far. The combat is very basic, the voice acting is...fine, the audio balancing is poor and the controls are a bit PS1 era janky, but the game looks great and has a ton of charm, and it has that 'Ocarina of time-lite' feeling that a lot of other decent action games had at the time - similar to something like Goemon on N64. Both Goemon 64 and MM Legends came first, but it's more a feeling I'm describing rather than an inspiration.
Anyway, based on howlongtobeat and my in-game timer, I suspect I'm about 2/3rds through the game already? There's a bunch of sidequests and mini-games to do so it might take a bit longer than that to actually finish.

Nice. I bounced very hard off MML the first time I tried it. The second time was a charm, though, since by then I’d accepted a tolerance for wonky, early 3D controls. Glad you’re enjoying it! Are you going for 100% completion?
Re: Summer Games Challenge 2026 - PRESS I FOR INVENTORY
Ok, I went ahead and got started.
Marathon 2 is available for free on Steam, so that was the first game I installed. It's a direct continuation of the story from the original game. As a result, it took me a second to remember exactly what was going on; all I knew is that I was surrounded by allied troops mowing down alien soldiers, and then they all teleported out. Thankfully, I soon found a computer monitor that explained that I'm now working for a rebelling AI that has decided to use me to run commando missions on a subjugated alien world. Fun!
There have been some hiccups. One downside to the Marathon games is that you can't access the options menu while playing. You basically have to exit the game to get back to the menu, so control customization can be a chore. However, after a little back and forth, I managed to get the controls where I like them, so a major complaint is handled.
I've now made it to the fourth level. Level flow hasn't been the greatest, and secrets can be well hidden, so I'm lower on ammo than I'd like. But the starter pistol ain't bad, and I have the new assault rifle and a sawed-off shotgun, so when I do have the needed bullets and shells, I'm a happy camper! The shotgun in particular feels good to use, with a heavy thump and enough power to one-shot the fodder I've seen so far. I'm told I get to dual wield these suckers eventually. I can't wait.
I also have been playing with Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. The Steam version is actually based on the Spanish release, and there are some oddities with fixing resolutions, audio, etc. I have it mainly figured out after some workarounds and patches, but I am forced to launch directly from the game's folder, not via Steam. I did test by going into the game, watching a few tutorials, and playing through the sniper tutorial mission. It's playable, that's what matters.
