I did the same and I was also having an internal battle with myself trying to decide if I was going to get a Dreamcast or PS2. I ended up going with the Dreamcast. I was buying so many magazines leading up to and after the console's release. Dreamcast just looked so damn fun. As much as the momentum was all behind Sony's successor, I don't remember many games really exciting me much. Whereas on Dreamcast I was wowed by the early shots of games like D2, Sonic Adventure, Power Stone, Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue.pierrot wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 3:28 amReprise wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 12:38 pm I still kind of want to get it at some point, just because it makes me nostalgic for that time when the console was first revealed and magazines were full of shots of and articles about Godzilla Generations, Virtua Fighter 3tb, Sonic Adventure and D2. I was so excited for the Dreamcast back then.
I hear that. I was so geeked up for the Dreamcast I spent a lot of time in the months before release fighting with people at school about it vs the PS2.

Re: Games Acquired 2025
Ah, I was 10,000% team Dreamcast, particularly once I had played Sonic Adventure on kiosk demos. I remember renting the pre-release console with Sonic Adventure from Hollywood Video, too. Did a lot of flipping through magazines at the book store, also, but only ended up buying two of them. I was actually flipping through one of them the other day while unpacking stuff. I think it might be the UK(or EU?) Official Sega Saturn Magazine. Has Dural on the cover, and a JP release event write-up for the Dreamcast with a picture of Eno and Suzuki talking with each other. (Plus a whole bunch of previews for Saturn games that never came out in the West--.)
Sometimes I think that the Dreamcast ruined my interest in games media and new games. Nothing ever really excites me quite like the build up to and the first couple years of the Dreamcast. (Probably more age than anything, though--.)

Oh I was pretty close to 100% team Dreamcast. It was just one of those things where I was still young in school and not only were other kids trying to tell me PS2 would be better, but my own parents were wondering if it would be smart to go for the Dreamcast in case the PS2 ended up forcing it to come to an end early (which it ultimately did, but I had no regrets)pierrot wrote: ↑Sun Jun 29, 2025 5:57 pm I think it might be the UK(or EU?) The Dreamcast was also the peak of my hype and excitement for new consoles and generations. Nothing has matched it since.
The magazine you are talking about is indeed the official UK Saturn magazine. It was an excellent magazine. I have that issue too. In fact, I am only 4 issues away from having a full set. I plan to pick up those final four issues I need at some point.

Markies' Games Acquired List Of 2025!
1. Micro Machines (NES)
2. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (NSW)
3. Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (GCN)
4. SteamWorld Collection (WiiU)
5. Fight'N Rage (NSW)
6. Donkey Kong (GB)
7. Syberia II (XBOX)
8. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
9. Final Fantasy Adventure (GB)
10. Marvel Super Heroes (PS1)
11. Final Fantasy IV Advance (GBA)
12. Double Dribble (NES)

I added Double Dribble on the Nintendo Entertainment System this morning!
I have started a tradition with a friend of mine where every July 1st, he picks one game for me to buy from my Wishlist, one Unfinished game for me to play and one game for me to replay. This year, he gave me an old game from his collection that he had as a child that has not been played in years. Well, after some dusting and cleaning, the game still works and I now own a copy of Double Dribble for the NES.
I remember playing the game a few times as a kid and popping it back in brought out some huge nostalgia. I loved the dunking animations and the presentation of the game. It is not the most exciting to game to finally own, but I am always happy to increase my NEW collection.

Re: Games Acquired 2025
As of around 1:30pm yesterday, yours truly was the proud owner of a Nintendo Switch 2 and today, I got my first two Switch 2 games.
* Cyberpunk 2077, with one of my biggest surprises so far being the fact that the genital feature is on a Nintendo console! So far, I've gotten as far as the first tutorials and I'm just blown away at how NOICE this looks on a handheld device like this. Probably because I keep forgetting that the Switch 2 is technically supposed to be on par with the PS4 Pro.
* Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma - Switch 2 Edition. This was the other game I bought and while I've only played it for a few minutes, I hope that the first impression is an understatement for how much I'll enjoy this.
I also ordered Mario Kart World, but as I said before, I forgot to double check and it ended up as a store pickup item. I figure by now the item should be cancelled and I'll just have to wait seven business days to get my money back.
As for the Switch 2 itself, while the battery life seems to be the only flaw so far, I definitely enjoyed playing a lot of my Switch 1 games on it. Funko Fusion seems to play SLIGHTLY better, the Switch 2 upgrade to Breath of the Wild has the game playing in a buttery smooth 60FPS and a few other games have been hit or miss. Surprised Dungeon Defenders Awakened and Ziggurat 2 didn't get much of a bump in graphics.
Only downside, aside from battery life, is that since the console is still new to the market, the number of Switch 2 games is so sparse. Keep in mind that this is probably the first time ever that I ended up getting a console not even a few weeks after its release. Closest was probably the 360 and the original 3DS (both were purchased roughly the better part of 12-18 months after release).
But first impressions have exceeded my expectations.

Re: Games Acquired 2025
I picked up the Japanese version of Super Street Fighter II for the Mega Drive. No manual unfortunately, but it was only around £30 if I remember correctly and complete ones seem to go for around £100. I already have a complete UK PAL copy anyways. It's nice to have a version I can play in 60hz though and also the artwork is just so much better than what we got in the West.

Re: Games Acquired 2025
Apparently I had forgotten what month it was last time I posted. Second game for July is Darkwatch for the Xbox. I hear the PS2 version has an extra level and co-op in the story mode that the Xbox version lacks, which is a shame. The Xbox version is cheaper though, so I will live without those two things and save a bit of money.

Re: Games Acquired 2025
Got my refund from the store pickup that I wasn't able to get, so I decided to celebrate to buy Mario Kart World. And this time, I made sure it was shipped. It's expected to get here Wednesday, ironically on my birthday.
