I've noticed that people watching the show also complained about AEW starting to feel AND look too much like WWE. I heard comments about the LED lights and the white ropes.
Yeah, I haven't watched it either. It sounds like Attitude Era/Vince Russo style booking from what I read and not in a good way. I am not sure why they went that route. Maybe they thought the more "sports entertainment" story driven match between MJF and Cole worked at All In, so they should continue doing stuff like that with MJF? This just sounded silly though.
MJF had a tag match on the pre-show, but got "injured", so Adam Cole - who has a broken ankle, is injured, isn't even cleared to wrestle and so couldn't do the tag match MJF just got injured in - is going to take his place? Ermmm ok.
And then of course it is a swerve, MJF makes sure he does the match with his "serious injury" and beats Jay White along with the Guns who interfere? Hos does anyone look good coming out of this? To top it off, MJF dives onto White onto the ground unprotected after the table spot botched and the table broke too early, actually giving himself a legitimate injury.
I am not really a big fan of storylines playing out over PPVs anyways. Yes, matches should tell a story and they should end a story, maybe start a new story in rare occurrences, but actually booking a PPV like it's one of your weekly TV shows is a bit silly imo.
At least the Swerve and Hangman match is already being spoken of as possibly one of the company's best matches this year, if not ever. Admittedly, I am skeptical. Both guys are capable of incredible matches and have already proven that much before (their feud is great), but those ultra violent matches just aren't for me. I thought it was cool when I was an edgy teenager and I'd watch ECW tapes at a friend's house. Not so much now.
Ah well, I have mostly come to terms with the fact that AEW will just be wildly inconsistent. Hopefully World's End next month will be better. It's rumoured Samoa Joe will be MJF's opponent.
