Not directly replying to your comment, but more to the issue of shipping costs in general. While people don't like the changes ebay made regarding fees the shipping restrictions are a welcome change and it is the direct result of people overcharging on shipping anyways. Auctions use to be $0.01 with $8.99 shipping. Those sellers were dodging ebay's fees and Ebay was losing money because of it. Ebay provides a service and is up to the user to decide if they want to use that service.

With the 5-star ratings and limits on shipping charges it brings more business to eBay. There may be complaints, but if you want to buy something and know you are getting ripped off on shipping people will just go to Amazon.com or half.com because of that fixed rate shipping (though half.com is fucking terrible, they will charge the buyer $3.99 for shipping then reimburse the seller only $2.89, for cd media at least) where the fuck is that $1.10 going?). As sellers you want more people on eBay. I could sell on chasethechuckwagon with only like 3% fees, but I still have to pay paypal (most of the time) and I can sell them item for more on ebay and it is guaranteed to sell.

eBay is the way it is now because it was abused. I don't give my business to people trying to cut corners. It is ultimately a representation of how their service will be. If I want an item and there are enough of them available I will look for the best deal, but 9 times out of 10 that is coming from the honest seller who takes pictures of their stuff and charges just about accurate shipping charges.

I don't disagree with the fact that sellers will have a $.99 auction with a $12.99 shipping rate, but sometimes it doesn't work. I read in auctions a few times since, "This actually cost xxx to ship but eBay will only allow me to charge xx" which is pretty unfair if you ask me.

And their fees are killing me, I'm reluctant to sell anything on eBay now. Between eBay and Pay Pal, there's way too big of a % I'm loosing. Some things aren't even worth selling.

If your item will cost more than the set limits you just need to do calculated shipping. Weigh your item and include the measurements of the box and it the buyer will pay that amount even if it exceed eBay's $4.00 limit or whatever.

As far as some things not worth selling, I had Tony Hawk 4 for the GBA with no label. It was unsellable and I just threw it out haha, but yeah the fees can be hard. It depends on the item I am selling to determine where I'll sell it. Craigslist is always nice, but don't expect to sell at eBay prices unless you've got an in demand item.

Buyers should be paying the fees not the sellers. All retail businesses pass their cost and fees onto the buyer.

^ This is true, although, I don't think buyers should pay the fees. At least, with my eBay record, I'd be in debt lol.

I've grew to pretty much hate Craigslist. I guess mostly because I don't WANT to deal with people. The few things I tried to sell on Craigslist (which I ended up not selling) left a bad taste in my mouth. Idiot people call me up and annoy the hell out of me.

Like this one dude... I was looking to sell my Marshall 4x12 cab, naturally I did my research and found no others on Craigslist in the area. So some moron calls me up and at this point I was debating NOT selling it, so I told him "I have a few people looking at it, I'll call you back if it's available." Perfect, nothing more should be said. This guy starts arguing with me. He's like, "You're gonna get screwed, man!" So I say, "How!?" And he formulated some half ass, idiotic explanation. Basically saying that the "other buyers" will buy other amps off Craiglist then I wont be able to sell mine. Like I already said, I KNEW mine was the only one up there. For good measure, I checked again to make sure any weren't added since I posted mine. Dude was trying to pressure me into selling HIM the amp. Forgot how I ended the conversation, but I abruptly hung up the phone then took it off Craigslist. Alright, enough off topic rant for right now. :D

Yeah a rule of the road I follow is that I dont give my phone number out on CL unless we've been back and forth a few times through email and we are going to be meeting up to complete the transaction. When you are dealing with CL you have to expect everything to fall through until the last minute too.

I guess also being slightly paranoid doesn't help. Even if I go back and forth via email for a while, then give the guy my address to come over to check out and possible purchase the amp, I run the risk of him just breaking into my house and stealing it. Wasn't it recently that some dude was raping women using Craigslist to bait them?

True... I always meet in a public place, usually a parking lot of a mall or convenience store or something. That doesnt work with everything if they want to test somethings though.

Yeah, I had the idea to set the amp up in my garage so a buyer doesn't have to come in my house... and see all my expensive equipment.
