Not directly replying to your comment, but more to the issue of shipping costs in general. While people don't like the changes ebay made regarding fees the shipping restrictions are a welcome change and it is the direct result of people overcharging on shipping anyways. Auctions use to be $0.01 with $8.99 shipping. Those sellers were dodging ebay's fees and Ebay was losing money because of it. Ebay provides a service and is up to the user to decide if they want to use that service.Ziggy587 wrote:I hate the 5 star rating deal. I don't think its fair for most people. "Was shipping cost reasonable" is an opinion. I might charge $5 for something small and light because I want to package it good, and some one might give me 1 star just because they're an idiot.
With the 5-star ratings and limits on shipping charges it brings more business to eBay. There may be complaints, but if you want to buy something and know you are getting ripped off on shipping people will just go to Amazon.com or half.com because of that fixed rate shipping (though half.com is fucking terrible, they will charge the buyer $3.99 for shipping then reimburse the seller only $2.89, for cd media at least) where the fuck is that $1.10 going?). As sellers you want more people on eBay. I could sell on chasethechuckwagon with only like 3% fees, but I still have to pay paypal (most of the time) and I can sell them item for more on ebay and it is guaranteed to sell.
eBay is the way it is now because it was abused. I don't give my business to people trying to cut corners. It is ultimately a representation of how their service will be. If I want an item and there are enough of them available I will look for the best deal, but 9 times out of 10 that is coming from the honest seller who takes pictures of their stuff and charges just about accurate shipping charges.
