edit- keep in mind to obtain the VGA to provide the transcoder, you'll need the VGA box as well. If money is no issue, it should look great. otherwise, whether or not that much $$ is worth the improvement over s-video is probably arguable.
In my opinion it is well worth it. I dont know about with the converter added in the mix (not sure if the conversion from vga to component is lossless), but DC looks great through VGA, its really the difference between HD and SD... I mean technically its not, but the diffference between S-video and VGA is WAAAAYY bigger than the difference between composite and S-video... if the makes sense to you.
The best pic for you is going to be VGA to component (by means of whatever converter) to your HD TV. Im sure it will be substantially better than S-vid on your set.
with a good transcoder involved, converting VGA to component, and even component to VGA, looks nearly flawless.
Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Definitely worth the money. It's a big improvement in picture.
I recieved my second pair of S-Video cables from the same Ebay seller and I had the same problem. All pixilated black and white on my LCD HDTV. I then tested the cables on my CRT and this time I had some color. Very fant but the overall picture was still bad. I tested the yellow video and the pictures is fine.
I can vouch for the quality of the Audio Authority VGA to Component transcoder. It was well worth the $130 that I paid for it a year or so ago.
My 56" Toshiba HDTV is 1080i and 480p only with no VGA input. I bought the transcoder and hooked my VGA box up to it and it's incredible.
56" of Marvel Vs. Capcom, Shenmue and Crazy Taxi. Resolution and colors simply pop. It's so far superior to the Y/C connection of S-Video that it is like a completely different system.
Was playing Sonic Adventure last weekend on here and some of those levels are just jaw dropping gorgeous.
