true. Movies are much older than video games though, and because of that they've had a longer time to earn their place as art in the mainstream mind. I would be surprised if something like the criterion collection doesn't pop up for video games in 30+ years.Mr.White555 wrote:What I meant is, that Video games don't get re-released(at least most of the time)...
The cover is meant to SELL units not appeal to the hardcore fan base. Thus the best business decision would be to sell a cover that is able to bring brand recognition instead of a cover that looks cool to fans.
and games may not be re-released a whole lot, but they do go through several different print runs in their lifespan, and sometimes are revised in that run. Look at the ocarina of time for example. There are 3 different versions of the same game with minor adjustments depending on what cartridge you buy.
I'm just saying that it would be a bold move on xbox sony or nintendo's part to do something like this. I know that the hardware to run older games is there because homebrewers have utilized it. and if there was an exceptional release of the legend of zelda, i would pick it up. It would be fantastic of nintendo to release a large box set of zelda with everything from the n64 back. They could throw in the manga, and cartoons as well as interviews about the inspiration of and making of zelda. Maybe surviving concept designs. All in a box that looks like a treasure chest with a triforce logo on it. Although it appeals to the fans and not so much your average madden buyer, if you printed it in limited numbers it would sell like crazy. Hell, look at the megaman 9 press kit as an example of amazing packaging. That piece sold out the same day it was released in a low print run.
Your right though mr.white, it isn't for everyone. I am defiantly that target audience for it though. I try to pick up collectors editions or limited editions when i can. I'm just saying that I think the demand for something like that is out there among the hardcore fans. It would be awesome if someone acted on it. They would make money- i would get sweet sets!
