One of the things Sony did during that era was that the library for the PS2 had EVERYTHING in it. Granted, the GameCube and XBOX had really good libraries as well, but there are certain aspects of both where they are lacking. The PS2 had a ginormous library and a game for everybody.RCBH928 wrote:What Sony did with PS2 needs to be a business case study, being the weakest of the 3 and turning on top with the strongest library is amusing especially to think at that time graphics power was much more effective when make the decision of which console to own, the xbox also had a very solid library so it was not like its lacking in that area.
Also, it dominated the JRPG scene of that generation. It made so much money in Japan on that fact alone. Add the fact that it was so cheap to make PS2 games and you had a console that just refused to die. In fact, it probably hindered the PS3 at the beginning because the PS2 kept hanging on. People didn't want to give that console up.
But, that was a fantastic generation. All three major consoles had so many exclusives that you could own all 3 and have some fantastic games on all of them. And that is not even mentioning the many cross platform games.
