Been listening to my shortlist I dump into my arcade cabinets frontend while doing menial maintenance on my various machines - adding and removing songs to make a tight playlist. It makes a great difference if good headphones or a subwoofer is present on chipmusic.
Journey to Silius - Title
This NES game was going to be Terminator. Sunsoft always knew how to pump out a great tune from a weak sound chip. The drums are pure win.
Wacky Wheels - Dream (Title)
I've always had a great appreciation for well made Adlib songs. Some artists can convey a lot of emotion through its FM synth capabilities. Alexander Brandon and Andras Molnar are my favorites, but this song Mark Klem made is so smooth.
Bubble Bobble - Commodore 64 In-game loop Most of the music of this iconic platformer is too basic and grating for me to not mute. In the C64 port, the use of arpeggios is so well done I actually listen to this loop out of the game.
Shatterhand - Level 1 This was some Super Sentai pink leotard game before it was turned american by making the protagonist a denim fist punching cyborg or something. The gameplay and music make it one of my favorite NES games. The pounding drums and bassline are so 80's awesome.
Ninja Gaiden II - Overdrive (Stg 2-2) This is pretty much my all-time favorite NES tune and favorite NES level. The echo-effect and driving drum beat convey the mood so well.
This was just me going through the playlist and picking some very chippy songs. If you wanna get my shortlist, there's a zip @ the bottom:

edit: oh yeah, prob my favorite Gameboy song Gremlins II title
Your 5 favorite memorable chiptunes by platform
Re: Your 5 favorite memorable chiptunes by platform
You mention Kenny Chou (C.C.Catch)- the composer that made the One Must Fall 2097 soundtrack. Of course he's one of the best, but are you including mod and software-mixed music in your chiptunes?
I spent many hours downloading the mod/xm/s3m scene music over dial-up, and I used to rip the songs from game data files to listen to outside of the game, but I don't think it's part of the chiptune category. Still some awesome music.

i was wasted and don't remember making either of those posts. They don't seem thought out but I stand by them. I had no idea C.C.C did any adlib stuff. thanks for letting me know. I only ever heard his library of tracked music from (I think) the Hornet Archive.
