I removed The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for the Microsoft XBOX this evening!
When I first picked up the original XBOX, one of the games people always talked about was Morrowind. This was when Skyrim was really huge, so I thought it was going to play exactly like it. I'm not a big PC gamer and I had my hesitations going into the game. But, when looking for RPG's on the XBOX, Morrowind was just too large to ignore. When I finally found a Game of the Year copy, I decided that I had to give it a try.
I created my character and went about exploring the world. I got to the second town, joined a guild and knew the next main story mission. I then tried the main story mission several times and I kept dying over and over. Well, I then found out that I need to level up, so I tried the Fighter's Guild mission. All I had to do was kill 3 Rats. And I kept dying to Rats. I kept dying to little rats that I couldn't hit with my large spear. So, I decided to just walk around the world and after walking for hours and only finding like two enemies, I saw that I wasn't closer to leveling up. You add on a directionless game with a task journal that is almost impossible to read and text dumps that go on forever, you leave one confused player.
I can see how the game is good and I can see how many people would latch onto it. The ability to get so immersed in a game can be really appealing. Unfortunately, I don't think that is for me. If I'm walking around confused and directionless, I just get frustrated. I need a checkpoint or something to point me in the right direction. I'm still curious to try the later versions as Oblivion and Skyrim still look interesting. Hopefully, the modern improvements will make me like the game more.
