I don't even get the attitude. I've seen it too. Mostly on Facebook.

1. Absolutely. The PS4 was full of ports and so was the PS3. Hell, it's nothing new; It happened with the Dreamcast too (loads of PS1/N64 ports on there).

2. No one's holding a gun to your head and making you buy the game. Take it or leave it. Either you want it, or you don't, because you've already played it and you can't justify double dipping or you haven't, but you refuse to buy it, because of the stigma of it being an 'old' game (which is dumb, if you ask me). It doesn't matter.

3. No, it doesn't take "scarce" or "valuable" resources away from creating new games.

4. Not everyone has owned these games before or even neccessarily the console previously required to play them.

5. This is a portable console, which means it's offering a new experience and new opportunities.

The whole argument is dumb to me. It's great having the opportunity to have all these great games on one console. I can't be arsed connecting my Wii U any more. The console is clunky, I don't have it connected anymore, so if I can get some of my favourite Wii U games on the Switch, then I will. If they're too pricey or I can't justify spending the money, then I won't bother. Who cares?

I think it's perfectly reasonable for folks to want a certain minimum amount of original content mixed in with their ports. I don't think there's any reason to worry about ports, necessarily, as long as there's also some original content as well. It's when the balance of the Force is disturbed that it becomes an issue, IMO.

I love the internet. Switch needs third party games! So when they announce them the attitude is basically Switch is getting too many 3rd party games! lol.

I think even ports is a sign of good health for the console. The gamecube, wii and wii u weren't even getting ports of games, because 3rd party sales just weren't that strong.

I too want to see more original content and just can't get as excited for ports of games as I would with new games, but I don't see how it's bad for them to be there. If you liked Bayonetta 3 isn't it nice that you can play 1 and 2 on the same system? Mario Kart and Hyrule warrios have all the DLC packed in and it's not like they're old games.

And at least the console comes with a special hook, that you can have all these amazing console experiences on a portable. When the PS4 was getting last gen ports it didn't even have that to bring to the table.

Exactly.

Also, I don't know why some people moan when these ports are released at full price, as if it's exclusive to Nintendo. The Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, GTA V and Last of Us remasters were all released at full price on PS4.

One point of concern I can really understand is the idea that if developers, especially western ones, can make bank with ports they may not bother making unique content, but without some sort of special relationship with Nintendo I don’t see lots of western devs investing in games they can’t sell across multiple platforms. I think the Japanese dev houses are a lot more likely to give us original or unique games.

Are you new to Nintendo? :P

They'll be full price...
Haha. Fair enough. I don’t know where my head was at.

I wouldn’t mind so much them being full price except that Nintendo games are never discounted until the very end of the console’s life.

Yeah, the fact Nintendo games are never discounted or diminish in value can be annoying. Like I want to hold off on buying some games and wait for discounts, but there's never any point with Nintendo games. Especially on a successful console like the Switch.

The only time I've seen Nintendo games fall in value is when a game is out on more than one system and people prefer one version over another. The Wii version of Zelda: Twilight Princess is relatively cheap at this post's time of writing. My copy of Pokken Tournament for the Wii U nose-dived in value as soon as the Switch version was announced.

It also doesn't help that Big N believes that their games should never be sold for less than they're worth, so they make very few copies compared to other companies. Wii U copies of games ported to Switch might be cheaper to pick up soon from resellers though.
