I imagine the difficulty from Criminal Girls 2 comes from it pushing you to grind, since I think its actual content is fairly lean. So this may just be a personal difficulty, as I tend to avoid grinding and just try to work my way through, which was nearly impossible in this game, since it seemed to want huge amounts of grinding to take place in small dungeons between bosses.

Comparatively, El Matador was just a dick and could kill you any time he wanted, so it more just felt like a trial of luck to see when he didn't decide to obliterate.

This is true unless you had Fog Breath.

Speaking of the greatest sixth gen JRPG ever, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Maniax Chronicle Edition recently got an English translation:

This is the final, final version of the game, where Dante was replaced with Raidou from the Devil Summoner series. Supposedly the difficulty of the Chronicle Edition was increased from the Maniax version. Because of course making Nocturne even harder only makes it better!

I started playing The Last of Us last night on PS3. Being another Naughty Dog showboat; so far it's what I thought it would be. Very expensive graphics wrapped around mediocre gameplay. Maybe it'll get better. At this point I'm only playing to see if all the plot twists I foresee actually come true.

Oh, and I also started playing Skyblazer on SNES last night too. It kicks ass so far.

I like The Last of Us a fair bit, however I played the remastered version for the PS4 when I got the system along with a few other games, including The Evil Within.

One game has ~3 different enemy types, no mechanical progression, lots of instant kill animation attacks...

One game has ~20 different enemy types and ~10 some epic boss battles, with an awesome intricate progression/upgrade system, and tough difficulty...

I'll let you do the math.

The human AI in that game is fucking HORRIBLE. Like truly some of the worst AI ever. A far far far cry from the promise of adaptive AI promised at E3 but hey ND gets a pass from people for doing massive downgrades Ubisoft style from E3 showings for whatever reason.

After Swords of Xeen, I'm now on Might and Magic 4.

Chugging Through Nioh still, I just cleared the 9th main mission and I'd say I've played 20 hours, or so. I really love the fast-paced combat and the fact that all builds seem viable, I'm tempted to respec for pure Magic and I would if it weren't for all my loot. The story is thin and many of the levels are just dark and bland, but the gameplay is so solid I don't really care.

Yeah. After having played for 5 hours at this point, I'm not agreeing with TLoU's 95% Metacritic score so far. To be fair, I'm hardly the target audience for showboat interactive movies like this.

Haha, yeah. Ultimately I think I was happy with it because gunplay felt a lot better than Uncharted at least. I like the urban environments too and the ending is something else, worth seeing through to the end. I didn't really care for the DLC at all though, there's barely any combat and I wouldn't say I love Elie or anything, so yeah.

My tolerance has gone up for the scripted games these last few years for some reason. I think it's the pendulum swinging back hard from me being tired of open world games, so suddenly the scripted short linear games (like playing some CoD again recently) are actually kind of nice and fun now. Both extremes will never be my preference though.

Have you played the two new Tomb Raider games? Personally I think they are WAY better than Uncharted in the gameplay department. Combat feels better, better progression/upgrading almost in Zelda like fashion, cool side tombs, small open maps with exploration at times, etc. It's got loot and other things I'm getting tired of, but it's always pretty streamlined compared to true open world games. I think Rise of the Tomb Raider visually might be the best thing I've played on my PS4 so far as well and it was all chilly cold environments which I love. Top it off with the classy Dead Space composer which gives them a unique and intense vibe, I really dig these games. Way more fun to actually play than the Naughty Dog games for my money.

Skyblazer looks amazing visually but I don't remember sticking with it long.
