That's why I think the BakaBT/NYAA torrents are better, they have the entire thing archived in a single download.

The B&W version is the Dark Horse version. The colorized version is the Epic (Marvel) version. As to which is better, that is subject of weeby debates which rage unto this day.

I got Ninja'd by Maru, oh well.
Whoopd I guess have been reading the Epic version then, I guess I thought I saw the DH logo. I'm on issue 8 right now. Really liking it. I wish they would have made a series of animated movies.

That's the first thing I found on there as well (the color version). I think I'd read some of the B&W on another site and I was just thinking how much the color added.

A question for more seasoned readers; are there any major story/content differences between the two? Do you miss anything reading one or the other for example?

So I looked into it myself, they seem to be nearly identical, the only difference being the color.

Well, I guess I'd probably give Dark Horse a little more credit for translation. I haven't actually been able to compare the two, but Dark Horse tends to go with very good localizers, so I'd wager the DH translation is probably a little better. But that's just guessing on my part.

Marvel's colorization is completely original to Marvel, so whatever it adds is Marvel's interpretation. That could be good or bad, depending on your opinion of lots of things.

These keen observations you've provided are elements of the eternal debate I mentioned earlier. Hell, even I don't know which version I truly prefer. I guess overall the Dark Horse version though. Just because it's closest to the source material. But colors sure are purty.

It's too bad Dark Horse doesn't have the license any longer. Kodansha currently has the US rights and has re-released it. According to Wikipedia that release is largely identical to the DH release. I'm guessing that means they kept the DH translation? I think Kodansha's upcoming hardcover release will be pretty nice, hopefully on good paper (manga is typically not on good paper). But it seems like it'll be pretty expensive, so I probably won't be able to get it.

I just got to chapter 17, which is past where the movie ended. Holy fuck, this is an awesome series. By far one the greatest comics/manga ever made.

I'm only on Chapter 8 of the color version and I already love it, it also makes me appreciate the changes I've already saw from the movie. You can tell Otomo really tried to make both work.

It really does show, but so much awesome story was left out. I can't wait to slowly start picking up some copies of it. I have like 2 issues of the Epic version already, so Im gonna try for a full set.

I've been wanting to read it sometime myself, I'm sure I'd love it. I'm not a big fan of the movie because it's a mess. No matter how many times I rewatch it over the years, my opinion has never really changed. It's super disjointed and badly paced, midway in I start zoning out. The time constraint obviously hurts it. I'm surprised they haven't gone back to try and make a full series of it by now.
