I always love the thing where a rental place will put that magnetic bar on the disc and laminate over it.

I once saw an Xbox game in a Gamestop... with teeth marks in the case. I'd like to point out, these were HUMAN teeth marks and not the ones of a child.

Someone had no shame trading it in obviously, and the store didn't even swap it for a new case.

at least at the store i work at, we dont take in games without the case at the least, and we always check for condition and price accordingly

I recently got a cart with a shiny rental sticker on it. I peeled off the sticker and it left behind silvery crap that said "VOID" all over it. I'm not sure what the point of that was, the lack of a sticker should be enough to bust the customer for messing with the cart.

Yeah, sorry about that, it might have been mine. I have bitten a few cases and carts out of frustration before...

vgaddict wrote:yeah ok so it gets you in trouble with the stickers but what the hell do you do with the original cases and instructions you know how many people get pissed off by you saying all we have sir is a platic case for you or the sleeve. What if its a 20-40 dollar game like the marios or resident evil games for gamecube? I used to work for gamestop and as i remember customers would get pissed off and another thing i buy a game for the xbox, i find the original case and all you guys have is the greatest hits WTF

Like I said above it varies by each individual GameStop, and some employees don't give a damn if the case is a greatest hits but the disc is an original black label printing or not. Also if you supposedly ever worked at a GameStop you would know that we don't require the cases for the game to be traded in, and empty cases on the wall are the most stolen item in the company. So stop throwing a hissy fit, & get over it.

Also how hard is it for you to peel off a freaking sticker? I swear I do it 5-10 times a day, you just need to be a little calmer over the sheer 'atrocity' of having your USED games looking used and simply spend a few minutes making them look new again.

You'd be amazed what some time and patience will teach you, like how to remove the gunk from rental store labels and security tags from carts and cases with rubbing alcohol and 15 minutes of your time, or how you can get GameStop's sticker gunk and remnants off with the stickers themselves.

I honestly apologize if I'm being a jerk, but don't get all angry at me just because things are the way they are.

We're not even supposed to take in the game if it's extremely mangled like that, but if we do then we're required to throw the original case out and replace it with a generic GameStop one for general health and saftey reasons.

yeah I know it sucks how the stores dont care if they have a case or not but when I used to work there I wouldn't accept any trades with disc unless the game was complete my manager used to be very picky especially with the scratched disc if it was scratched we would not take it. We always thought is this how you would buy a game from the store if you were buying it?

I'm reminded of 2 different trade ins when I used to work there...
One was a copy of Gothika the movie that I'm almost positive had human feces smeared on the front. Most disgusting thing I've ever seen.
Second (not really relevant) was a copy of Jay and Silent Bob that , instead of Jay and SIlent Bob, had a copy of Pussy Pounders or something equally hilarious titled porn movie.

Unfortunately, not everyone is like us and takes care of things they own, especially discs. And most of Gamestops audience is not "us", its families, or kids, or just people who don't give a shit. So, as a result, sadly, many used things they sell reflect this. At mall stores, there is a big "fake case" problem, because dumbass teenagers that hang out at the mall try to steal things, so they take the cases off the wall, thinking they are going to be getting a free game.
I have a funny story about catching someone in the act, but maybe I'll write it out later...it's probably only funny if you were there :(

A lot has changed recently. After the corporate buyouts ended we bought all existing GameStop, EB etc... franchises back and changed the trade, return, and edge policies so now its basically take the game in with or without the case if it's in playable condition if you want to keep your job.
