anybody anal about their video games?
Re: anybody anal about their video games?
That sort of crap is why I go to gamecrazy instead of gamestop if I go to a chain at all. At least you can usually get the cases they use for rentals, they have a smaller cover pic, short description, and a controls rundown.

Re: anybody anal about their video games?
Every game we have used is supposed to have a front, rear, and spine barcode/price sticker so that once a week we can scan every game case in the store into the company during TOH (Title On Hand) count. If a case is missing or stolen then we print out one of those crappy GameStop cases. But the thing is that we can only process TOH when we're open so just being able to run the scanner down the spines of all the games while they're on the shelf helps; especially on the PS2 section where we have about 3,000 individual cases. Don't forget that customers get pissed when they have to wait in line at the register because the other one is being used for TOH. Also some stores are beginning to leave the label on the sticker and simply slide it onto the spine, which means you just slide it out and throw it away when you buy it. The problem there though is that you have to ok any processing issues or changes with your manager who if ok must then ok it with the district manager. In the end I've only seen two stores in my area start doing it and have been trying to get our store to as well.noiseredux wrote:why would you get written up? i dnt understand.

yeah ok so it gets you in trouble with the stickers but what the hell do you do with the original cases and instructions you know how many people get pissed off by you saying all we have sir is a platic case for you or the sleeve. What if its a 20-40 dollar game like the marios or resident evil games for gamecube? I used to work for gamestop and as i remember customers would get pissed off and another thing i buy a game for the xbox, i find the original case and all you guys have is the greatest hits WTF
Re: anybody anal about their video games?
I used to care about manuals and boxes, but not so much now. I don't really have the space for all of the games I have, so for the ones that I have in crappy boxes, I just put the disc into a Case Logic binder and toss out the broken case. I've thought about scrapping all my old boxes and manuals and just putting everything into binders
to conserve space, but I haven't gone that far yet.
I don't know how people scrach up their discs so bad though. I always treat mine with care. They only have scratches if I bought them used.

I've always been pissed off at how Gamestop stickers the hell out of everything there too. You think if I were to take all the games/inlays/instructions out of my stickered up cases and bring them to a Gamestop, they'd exchange them for fresh cases? I honestly think that they put more value into a case the more stickers it has. My Xenosaga 2 case is completely unusable, and has about five stickers on the front alone.
I am really anal about my video games, but I am a semi-frequent contributor to thecoverproject, so it kinda goes hand in hand. Part of the reason I like putting all my PC, PSX, Saturn and Dreamcast games in DVD cases is so that I can keep the original CD cases and boxes in mint condition.

Honestly, on PS2 cases, stickers don't bug me as much. But when they're on cartridges? I hate it. I REALLY hate it when I buy a SNES game and there's a sticker on the label. Got a copy of Fatal Fury Special where you can't read the title because of that.

Re: anybody anal about their video games?
I don't think it's anal at all to want nice stuff. People should be entitled to complete packaging in good condition when they buy games. We spend our hard earned money on these things.
It's not entirely Gamestop's fault that the people trading in treat their games like shit. Although, GS should sell things without cases and manuals for a lower cost. But soccer moms want to save a whopping three bucks on little Johnny's game, so they buy the used crap and Gamestop rapes in the profits. It'll never change unless we decide to start appreciating what we buy and recognize shitty business ethics. It's just sad how people treat gaming as a disposable medium.
I always buy new if I can and go to independent shops and online sellers for my product. I also keep my games neat, and I'm very careful with discs. I keep the games I'm currently playing in generic slim CD cases, so I don't have to constantly mess with the original cases. Yeah sounds a little crazy, but I don't think I'll regret in 20 years having a solid retro collection in near mint shape.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen done to a game case?
I've got a SNES cart where a rental store literally branded its logo into the back. Yes, branded, as in took a heated implement and melted their store logo's name into the plastic. I'm very wary of buying from Hollywood Video now.

Re: anybody anal about their video games?
i dont think i can beat a branded game, but i have seen many with giant rental stickers on the backs of games that are impossible to take off without ruining the original label
p.s. id like to see a photo of the game with the brand on the back, sounds...interesting
