Hang in there PS2! We still love you!
Re: Hang in there PS2! We still love you!
My PS2 collection is the second largest game collection for any single console I own, if only because so many SNES games are so darn cheap.

Re: Hang in there PS2! We still love you!
My only gripe with the PS2 is that of late (here in Australia at least) it's become Sony's shovelware console. Tonnes of "little princess playground" and "pet store" shite games appearing everywhere.
With that said, as long as the console is still selling, and there are a handful of decent games appearing now and then, it's worth it. I hope to see a lot of smaller/indi stuff hitting it now that Sony are opening up the approval process. It's a brilliant platform for 2D games as well (much like the Saturn, leveraging all that 3D horsepower for 2D effects). So I'm hoping we see a lot of 2D stuff coming out soon too.

Sure new systems with better graphics are out, and there are retro systems that have all those nostalgic favorites, but game for game... nothing comes close to touching the PS2.

There are undoubtedly other consoles that are good, but none come even close to the PS2 in my opinion. I hope people do to the PS2 what the Japanese did to the Dreamcast. Over in Japan they still make brand-new games for the Dreamcast.
Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet but there is a game for the PS2 that just came out called Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja 4(It's been out in Japan for a while). You all know what Naruto is so you can guess what the game is like, and although many people aren't Naruto fans it will still sell just as well as every other Naruto game ever freaking made no matter how bad it is.

Maybe now would be a perfect time to give the ps2 a fitting toast? Seeing as how i actually just got one.. (its not here yet) but I'm also looking to own the best exclusives for the system. I already have a small list I want to get... my first ps2 game will be GTA:Vice City... love that game's retro feel.
others include:
God of War
Shadow of Colossus
Katamari Damasty
God of War II
Devil May Cry
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (although i never was all that interested in mgs series ever)
at least one Final Fantasy... best one in peoples opinion?
It would seem fitting to ask in this thread to me, or should a new one be made for best ps2 games that aren't on any other system.

That's a pretty good list there but there's a few problems with it. One, don't get MGS3:SE. Get its remake Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Trust me, there are huge improvements made in Subsistence that has to do with controls, the camera, general gameplay and amount of content.
Problem number two is your choice of GTA. You see, Vice City and GTA3 if compared to any video game nowadays have very very outdated controls. Its still over all not a bad purchase necessarily but I'm just warning you; be prepared to feel like you're controlling a hypo with guns attached.
Problem three is... well its not really a problem but the list is pretty small. There are hundreds of quality games on the PS2 and although you don't want to flood your library with all of them at once, you will definitely be missing out on some of the very best(In my opinion) games ever created if this is where your looking at for games. The games on your list are good. But don't limit your view to the top hitters on the system that are getting constant 9 out of 10's from reviewers(And the like).
And finally. The Final Fantasy game you should get on PS2 is 100% definitely Final Fantasy X. It's near perfection for any RPG fan. And for a few people it does in fact reach that perfection. Final Fantasy X-2 wasn't nearly as well received by people and is generally considered a bad game when compared to FFX. I personally don't understand why at all. I thought the game was just slightly short of making the same level of greatness that FFX did. But maybe that's just because I'm a sucker for T&A.
Hope that helped, and if you need any more game suggestions I would suggest starting a new thread. It's not really necessary but if you want some extensive suggestions(Like my own) it's better to not be using borrowed space. Don't feel bad or anything, just note it for future experiences.

Re: Hang in there PS2! We still love you!
I got a PS2 just two days ago. Around here lots of people are selling them to buy a new-gen console so I got one cheap. It has a huge library of games I should play, starting with the brand-new SMTs and ending with the Metal Gear series. It also allows you to play PS1 games so it's a must have and, in my opinion, the first console an amateur coleccionist like me should get.
Let's just say that the number of games I want for the PS1/PS2 is at least half as big as all the other consoles combined.

Just make sure you check before you buy a PSOne game. Not all of them work on the PS2 for some reason.

Re: Hang in there PS2! We still love you!
I remember how excited I was to pick up a PS2 at launch. The system really entertained me for a good long while. Unfortunately I gave my little brother a good amount of my collection when he moved across the country, and of course, he has fallen for the Game Stop trade in program. I have never seen someone so addicted to trading in games. He buys games and literally trades them in a week later for like half value.. What a waste. He just bought himself a Genesis though, so we will see how it works out. I gave him some of my duplicate games.. All I gotta say is for his personal heath he better not sell them. At least Gamestop wont take them in..
Sorry for the tangent and venting.
