Famitsu July 2017 Poll: Favorite RPG of all time
Re: Famitsu July 2017 Poll: Favorite RPG of all time
Eh, that's largely what that list is though. A few recent releases that people are still stoked about, and classic titles. Their surveys always skew like that. In 2010, FFXIII was the highest rated FF game, and third overall on their Greatest Games of All Time list.

I have yet to beat them but FFXV and Xenoblade Chronicles X. They are both amazing games.

Persona 5 is a good rpg and all, but does it really beat Chrono Trigger? I remember when FFVII released it had alot of hype and notoriety.
To each their own I guess.

Yeah, gotta remember that the readers are also going to likely skew younger as well. That's going to add some recency bias, especially if a recent RPG is one of the first ones they've ever played.
This is not the only place this happens, of course. I have a PC Games magazine that had a Top 100 list, and the top spot went to Total Annihilation, a game that had been released that year. Of course, it also helps that TA is a fantastic RTS.

I forgot about Phantasy Star IV on Genesis. Amazing game. Also, Lufia & The Fortress of Doom on SNES. There is another RPG I beat on GameGear that I remember being very well done but I can't ever remember the name of the game.

If it's an RPG on Game Gear, it's probably Defenders of Oasis. And it is really good.
Lufia II absolutely destroys the first game, though. Phantasy Star IV is legit amazing.

Well, it is Famitsu, right? Do they even cover PC RPGs, or is it all console/handheld? (Seriously don't know.)

Fine fine, no Sword RPG.

I do feel like this list could be improved with some Infinity Engine goodness.
