Non-US PS2 Games

Post by Sano »

I have a modded PS2 via the memory card mod. Will the abilities of the memory card mod make it possible to play burned games that are not US?

FreeMcBoot will let you play Japanese or European games if they are ESR patched.

Really? I did not know the imports had to be ESR patched with FreeMCBoot. There is a huge library of NTSCJ games to discover that never had a U.S release. I just bought a few more obscure titles at BookOff.

HDLoader Guide and Pal Conversion in the Guides section
HDAdvance and HDLoader do NOT need patches for the Japan import games. A mod chip is not even needed if a flip top is mounted on the console shell. I direct install purchased Japan imports from BookOff thru the flip top, no ISO from ethernet cable of PC or mod chip needed.

As for the PAL games an easy conversion to NTSC (similar to ESR routine) then direct install the newly created ISO.

Well each option has different effects on the system, they can within reason be combined for further convenience.
Even if you have a modchip, a flip top reduces the tray motor's workload, ideas like that.

If running from HDD or USB via OPL, no patch is needed. The stock JPN .iso will run fine. Assuming the same is true with HDLoader as CRT mentioned above.

For ESR patched files, you're talking running off burned disc.

Two different options. I'd recommend running off HDD. No patching needed. Just rip your JPN PS2 .iso with ImgBurn or go DL the file. Load up off hard drive in OPL.
