It's an ancient PS1 platformer that is first person view, has unintuitive controls and easy pitfall deaths. It's challenging. I beat it myself earlier this year, so I speak legit. It's also very fun despite the jank of its age.

Imagine being a slinky with guns, now navigate treacherous levels and fight asshole bosses. Also you're neon pink. No reason why. You just are.

I personally don't think having infinite continues is enough to disqualify a game. Ninja Gaiden and NG2 both have infinite continues, but they're tough as nails.

That being said, I want someone to make a run at Ninja Gaiden III. Have fun with your five continues! And no Japanese or Trilogy versions! Those are a joke compared to the US NES version.

Yay! I particularly wanted to do Jumping Flash so I'm glad that it was approved. Mostly because it looks interesting and cute haha.

Anyway, now I have my final list!

Prince of Persia (SNES)
Jumping Flash! (PS1)
Somer Assault (Turbo)

Hopefully I didn't make a poor selection

Personally, I'm thrilled at how varied and eclectic your list is. I expect to read some interesting reviews at the end of your challenge.

Awesome! I will update the OP to reflect your finalized registration.

As far as registered participants go, I think at this point we're waiting on:

dsheinem
Fastbilly
Jmustang1968
Kuruwin
Pierrot

to post with their finalized game lists.

I very well may have missed where any of these people already did that. If I did, I apologize, but please clarify it for me.

Thanks! This is turning out good so far. 8)

Wait until I have to beat Hard Corps, then we'll talk about if it's "turning out good" or not. ;)

Well I know I am for sure doing Contra III.

I don't actually own a copy of Fatal Labyrinth like I thought, but could probably easily and cheaply get one before July.

Still debating between
Turtles
Desert Strike
Robo vs Terminator
Getting Fatal Labyrinth
Battletech
Demons Crest (on not normal difficulty?)

To round out my 3. Any suggestions?

The deal with Demon's Crest is that you have to finish the game with all the items, which lets you unlock a super-secret extra boss that's tough as nails.

Beating the USA version of that game fair and square... I don't even know how it's possible.
Jmustang1968 wrote:Still debating between

Turtles - The NES original is hard, and has a charm of its own. I don't think it's as terrible of a game as some say. Then again, I never beat it.

Desert Strike - What I enjoyed about beating this one, is it requires as much tactics as it does reflex, if not more so. I think it's more polished than Jungle or Urban strike, as those two have never hooked me like Desert did.

Robo vs Terminator - I've never played this.

Getting Fatal Labyrinth - I think Fatal Labyrinth is quite a good roguelike. I do pretty well on my runs until the ninjas start to appear. Those bastards are my nemesis. But still, if you enjoy roguelikes Fatal Labyrinth is easy to learn and has a lot to offer. And like I said, if you're going to beat it, it'll be on a sub-two hour run. I only know one person personally who beat it.

Battletech - I've played this a few times, but it always seemed a bit sloppy. It's similar to Desert Strike but lacks the polish and finesse. Less strategy and more boom boom boom. Wouldn't be a top pick for me.

Demons Crest - Man do I love Demon's Crest. This is one of my all time favorite SNES games. A lot of people find Demon's Crest, Gargoyle's Quest, and Gargoyle's Quest 2 very difficult, because they just can't wrap their heads around the way the flying/jumping mechanics work. (It's really not that hard, just quit trying to be Mario.) Once you understand the way the platforming mechanics work, this game (and its predecessors) are not very hard. However, with Demon's Crest, there's a special ending with an extra area and final final boss. Getting that stuff to unlock (as in figuring out how to do it yourself) can be tricky, and defeating the final final boss is legit challenging. I'm willing to YES this game if you're going for that special ending. And also because everyone should play Demon's Crest.
