Re: Wii Storage Issue Solution?
Awesome... I have barely scratched my Wii system memory, but this is good to hear. I have great hope the arcade titles on Virtual Console will keep going.. it's not best starting lineup but a good start in right direction.. I almost never buy games on Wii VC except as a backup to some of my old games mainly cause I like having it played on original hardware/controls. It is still a good fix solution overall with no additional hardware and SD cards are really cheap..

Re: Wii Storage Issue Solution?
This actually rectifies one of my major complaints about the console, and one of the reasons I haven't been interested in buying one. It's about two years too late, but still a good move.

Alright, so report from the Homebrew front.
If you install the update, you will NOT be able to use the Twilight Hack or INSTALL the Homebrew channel.
If you have previously installed the Homebrew channel you can safely update your system. The Homebrew channel will still function properly and can launch all your old programs, such as SNES9x and ScummVm.

Well if the Homebrew channel still works, it's just a matter of time before they come out with a new way to install it.

Im thinking now SFIIHD is now a possibility on the Wii. Before many of the games on XBOX and PS3 were too big for the WiiWare service, but now with better storage... who knows.

Unfortunately it would be 480p at best. It wouldn't look bad, but HD is in the name. Enhanced Def Remix?SpaceBooger wrote:Im thinking now SFIIHD is now a possibility on the Wii. Before many of the games on XBOX and PS3 were too big for the WiiWare service, but now with better storage... who knows.
Re: Wii Storage Issue Solution?
Not really. All that the the new update does is copy the games to the NAND on the Wii rather than actually booting them from the SD card. I don't know why they have decided to do this since all it does is basically automate the process of copying games to the Wii and then deleting them after you have finished playing. So if you had a full Wii memory in the first place then you won't be able to do anything with this update until you remove some wads from the Wii's memory.SpaceBooger wrote:Im thinking now SFIIHD is now a possibility on the Wii. The same storage limitation applies so you will only be able to use say 300MB maximum for a single channel (since a large portion of channels are already installed on your Wii, like internet channel, photo channel, etc of course you can delete these if you want. All your save games are stored on your Wii which can take up a lot of space, some games take several hundred blocks each.)
So any game that is larger than even 250MB is going to be too much for the vast majority of Wii consoles. They simply don't have enough space, unless you only have 1 or 2 games and no VC titles.
Nintendo needs to address this problem properly with a system menu overall. It needs to change at a fundamental level rather than this 'hack'. This is simply a work around not a solution. They need to let users expand the system memory with SD rather than having the segregation. I don't understand their reasoning for not allowing you to just boot the games from SD since they let you copy the games to the SD in the first place, it's not like they're scared of piracy since the games are signed to your Wii and without a fundamental mod that removes the security layer with regards to unsigned software they can't function on another unmodded wii anyway.
I just hope the homebrew community addresses this issue soon enough. Since we obviously can't rely on Nintendo fixing this fundamental flaw.
Oh yeah, and to all the people whinging (not people on this forum but more to some of the self-righteous members of the homebrew community) about how some devs enabled the ability for hacked IOS and loading of backups without a hardmod, without these guys pushing the envelope and getting these things working then maybe Nintendo wouldn't have pushed the boat out and got the 4.0 system update ASAP to stop people hacking the console for piracy. Without the cat and mouse game, closed systems just stagnate and don't receive required security/function updates in a timely manner .
