My girlfriend had me watch it too. The books are one of her guilty pleasures.

To be honest, my girlfriend had to explain half the movie to me, because everything seemed to happen for no reason at all (she let me know that the books make more sense, at least). Also, the constant yelling in the cinema annoyed the hell out of me. I'll never watch another teen movie ever again.
