The Curse of the Saturn ...

Post by 4ppleseed »

I bought a ''Model 2'' Saturn with the round light grey buttons on it but as you can read here:
http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1307

It turned out to be a Sanyo Saturn and I couldn't chip it.

So, I put it on the shelf and went back to eBay and finally got another ''Model 2'' Saturn, again with round grey buttons but I've opened it up and this chip...

Isn't long like the one in the picture. It is square, with pins all around it (is this a 64 pin chip?) Plus the cable going out from the drive to where the chip goes, is twisted rather than straight.

I tried to install the chip using A-B method but I can't get it to work. Has anyone chipped a Model 2 with a square chip. Or heard of a Model 2 grey round button Saturn, with a 64 pin chip?

:( all I want for Christmas is a chipped Sega Saturn.

a square chip? sounds like a 64 pin. i wonder if it's possible someone swapped out the guts of the model 2 for a model 1?

Actually, I've heard of numerous occassions where a round-buttoned Saturn has a 64-pin chip.
That's why I always tell people to ask the seller to open up the machine and look inside to verify.

I got a round 64 pin and the AB didn't work at all, I also have a white Japanese Sanyo Saturn that also turned out to be unmoddable

Call me crazy....but they say this chip will work with a 64 pin saturn. Has anyone else looked into this?

I've actually been looking at this site and considering giving one of their chips a go. RB's chips are perfect if you have a model 2 but for us less fortunate these seem like an alternative ... be it a tough to install, lots of soldering alternative.

It's possible I guess but that seems a lot of hard work. The person I bought this from was not much of a gamer or a techie, she was just trying to get rid of the Saturn without really knowing much about it.

Yep, I think its just one of those things. Would be a bit cheeky to of asked her to open up the Saturn before I won it on eBay lol.

BTW Your new chip came on Monday - that's amazingly fast delivery! Thanks a lot. :)

It's nice to know I am not alone in my doom.

There are methods for modding a 64-pin, although they are not guaranteed to work, you'll hear happy and sad stories if you ask enough people

Wow, I hope I don't run into any problems like this when I finally pop the lids on my Saturns.

You've made my post very pretty, thanks :)

I've actually seen another Model 2 in a local GAME shop. I might buy that and try and install my new chip. I hope this one is the right one. If not that's 3 Saturns on my shelf lol.
