Take the well established "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" storyline, put it in Australia in the early 90s where a clever kid falls into an alternative world, aka Poland, and has to save it from the selfappointed dictators since they have magic suits that run on technology that they have forgotten how they work. Season 1 was amazing as a preteen/teen, but it held up as an adult when I watched it last year.
Season 2 came out three years later and I honestly did not know about it until a few years ago. It takes the series to a different plane that is badly stereotypical 70s Asian. Including a child godking that is childish, super computers, lots of jade things, and spears with points that make no sense. I am six episodes in and the story has already gone off the rails a dozen times. The story is serviceable, but I fear it will not recover. Sadly it is mostly known outside of Australia because the Chinese lead Anthony Wong was Ghost in Matrix 2 and 3, while the main characters older brother, Ryan Kwaten, is in Trueblood.
I fully recommend Spellbinder Season 1 for anyone who has kids who like adventure stories. Sadly the DVDs are stupid expensive, and R4. But luckily quality dvd rips have popped up on youtube:
