I am pretty sure "rapey" is never an appropriate term to use about prices.

The Krion Conquest is very much an unfair, off-brand Mega Man. It's okay if you are really desperate, but it's a little too janky to fully recommend.

It's unique alright but it's not a bad game either, just very under the radar until those idiotic 'hidden gems' videos popped up by attention whores on youtube...then it got expensive.

You guys looking to scratch some NES platformer itches oughta check out the Battle Kid games. Yeah they are modern NES games, but still designed to run on actual NES hardware. These are ideal for people who've been playing NES platformers for decades and are ready for a next level challenge. Check out the trailers:

Fortress of Peril:

Mountain of Torment:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

First one is overkill and I tried the dumped ROM someone threw out there, but the sequel I've heard is a bit better balanced and as such a little easier but seriously no cake walk. I've not seen a ROM for it so I can't be sure.

It surprises me people don't tend to dump homebrew yet they're perfectly hypocritically fine stealing from big business. Seems like it's all stealing to me. :)

I've started playing Pony Quest, a fan made game I bought at BronyCon a couple years ago built on the basis of Final Fantasy. It's actually incredibly impressive, and if I manage to finish it (there's zero discussion or guide help online that I can find), I'll make sure to write up a review highlighting the impressive changes (and the disappointing parts).

What about the "Hidden Gems" articles that appeared here on RacketBoy that used to be part of our historic claim to fame?

What about them? I imagine the stuff this site has done in the past was likely done in a time before everyone with a webcam felt they were a pro needing to drop their two cents online via youtube. The stuff on youtube all seems to parrot each other combining into many GB of wasted time and space. The videos if anything may have been inspired from text here or video from cinemassacre which helped cause enough awareness that helped with the situation old games are in now for better or worse.
