Re: People talk about 2007 and other years
2007 saw the release of the fourth generation of Pokemon. I went to the release event held at the Nintendo Store in Manhattan. It was a fun event. I took a picture with a giant inflatable Dialga behind me. I have it on my PC at home. When I find it I'll edit post to include it. Ultimately I played the crap out of the game!
I can specifically remember the Pokemon event day because that's the day my love of cars started. Before, I couldn't really care about cars at all. No interest in horsepower, cornering speeds, zero to 60 times, and so on. On the way to the event, on 6th Ave, I saw a car I've never seen before go northbound. It was at the light and the first one at the line. When the light turned green, the guy jumped off the line where by I heard the V10 engine rip the fabric of time. It was a silver Porsche Carrera GT. I swear that engine could wake the dead if it drove past a graveyard. And since then I have been an admirer of things that go fast.
Anyway that was my little tidbit of 2007.
Found it.

Re: People talk about 2007 and other years
The stuff I talked about earlier was during the summer of 2007. I can't believe I forgot about the gaming I was doing in the fall of that year. Because in October of 2007, I got myself one of these bad boys:

OH YEAH THE MUHFUGGIN' ONYX DS LITE
The first few games I beat for it were:
I fondly remember laying in bed during those 2007 autumn evenings, playing my DS as the orange dusk came over the falling yellow leaves. Life affirming it twas.
Yeah the more I think about it, the more I realize 2007 was one of the very best years of gaming I ever had. It was a year of a lot of new beginnings for me in my personal life as well. For example, I joined the company I still work for today back in February 2007.

Wow! Congrats on the big one-ohh!
I myself got the DS Lite in Q4 2006 but didn't really come into its own until 2007 which included the aforementioned Pokemon games.
I know there's another thread about this but, man. The DS was a great system.

Yep. I've still got that Onyx from 2007, and it still works perfectly. Although I prefer a Cobalt / Black DS Lite these days. (I'm working on one last thread for DS discussion before we move on.)casterofdreams wrote:I know there's another thread about this but, man. The DS was a great system.

Guys, you have a way better memory than me. All I know is that I was in my first year of community college and life was insane in 2007. Then 2008 was the worst year of my life. lol

Re: People talk about 2007 and other years
What's weird is I don't remember much about 2011-2014, those years are kind of all blurred into one big year if that makes any sense. I distinctly remember 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 though, because each year was very different than the last, as far as what was going on in my life.Xeogred wrote:Guys, you have a way better memory than me. You can't just say 2008 was the worst year of your life and then not explain why.

Re: People talk about 2007 and other years
2008 was a pretty awful year for me, too. My Dad ran into several major health issues starting that year, and it took two or three years to straighten them out. It was really hard on my Mom, and the worry got to me a lot, too. It doesn't help that I'm naturally inclined to be a worrier, although I've gotten a little better in that regard over the last few years. (Dad's heart surgery scared the crap out of me, though, in 2015.)
Anyway, games! Super Mario Galaxy was an absolute revelation. I'd fallen off the 3D platformer wagon, honestly, at that point. SMG is the game that got me back on, at least for that one. It rekindled a sense of amazement that I hadn't had in years. Any time a game can do that, I know it's a good 'un.

Re: People talk about 2007 and other years
Eh, it was just that personal struggle of feeling like the world was crushing me and I was supposed to have the rest of my entire life mapped out with college and the future, meeting the ultra high expectations of some extended family like some of my grandparents, etc. Slipped into a severe depression in 2008 and literally did nothing for the entire year, had that vampire life style going on with my clock completely reversed. Only saving grace was I had one circle of friends I would still hang out with, though took me a few more years after that to realize how toxic they were. Home situation wasn't great.
I don't look back with many regrets thesedays or try to give the past much attention, or the future. It's just interesting to think what life could have been like if I moved out way earlier than I did (when I was 25 which seems super late, though apparently not with millennials thesedays).
So my life suggestion, get your ass out of the house ASAP, don't give a shit about what others think, money isn't everything and you have nothing to prove, and live for the now!
High school life was good to me though, so I only have awesome memories of like 2002-2006. 2013+ has all been great. I can recall a LOT of 2005-2006 personally. I wasn't a senior in 2004, but Halo 2's release date was like an entire school skip day (I went to a high tech school so it was all nerds). Then I did two years of game design there, so Oblivion was a big deal and we'd watch videos and keep up on it. Low and behold I ended up hating the game when it released haha. Half-Life 2 was a huge deal here too, though I didn't have a good PC to play it then. Played Unreal Tournament 2004 in one of the labs after school a lot.
I was pretty into the DS and Wii when those came out, so that must have been somewhere around 2007.

Re: People talk about 2007 and other years
Thanks for illuminating Xeogred, sounds like you and Sarge had quite challenging 2008's.
What I remember about 2008, was I chose to be a bachelor that year, as in I didn't date anyone at all. Was a side effect of the previous year's long term relationship going sour. I just focused on myself and doing whatever I wanted to do. Wrote a lot of music, watched a lot of anime, and played a lot of video games. I really got to know myself that year too, as I spent so much time alone at the rental house I was living solo in.* After a while though, I started to get tired of being alone and started dating again in 2009.
As for gaming in 2008, I remember doing a lot of PC gaming that year. I specifically remember beating S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and then Fallout 3 back-to-back. It was post-apocalyptic bliss.
*Upon reflection, I think it's a good idea for someone to live by themselves for a year or so, it will make you grow as a person. Even though I moved out of my parent's house in 1997, up until 2008, I'd never lived alone. I'd either had roommates, or lived with girls I was in relationships with. When you live alone you have to face yourself for better or worse.
