Likewise, I went from the Original DMG-001 to the purple Gameboy Color for Xmas of 1998.

I never went to 55th grade though; that's a pretty impressive academic record. I only went to college. No wonder your parents bought you a gift.

I never saw this particular commercial for the Pocket, but it reminded me of the 1998 commercial for the WCW/NWO Uncensored wrestling pay-per-view, then I went to the comments, I wasn't the only one!

Favorite lesser known DS titles?

I have a long weekend down at the farm and instead of taking a PC, I figured Id bring the DSiXL back out. I have played most of the big named titles, except Mario Hoops which I just got a copy of. If nothing comes of this I will just play Mario 64 again, its been long enough.

I don't know how lesser known these may be, but I like the Touchmaster series, Feel the Magic XX/YY, Scribblenauts, etc.

It's nice to be able to test out the system right then and there, so I certainly don't mind a free copy of Tetris to sweeten the deal.

I played a lot of Gameboy as a kid. I had the original DMG-001 "Grey Brick" that I played for endless hours stuck in airports. I remember wanting a Gameboy Pocket in 1996 when they came out. There was a real hypnotic commercial "stick it in your pocket."
But it wasn't in the cards. 1996 was a lean year for my family. C'est la vie!

Fast forward twenty years later, and I finally own a Gameboy Pocket MGB-001. I have to say that the screen is a good bit sharper, and the response time is better compared to the original.

Lucky sob, that game is worth $5 alone. Can't tell if that screen has scratches or not, but a black GBP I think is worth around $40 if all is well with it in the upper condition level of things.

Back in the day I was a big Nintendo flipper with hardware and sadly I guess I still am when it comes to handhelds. I get every version, stupidly I dump the last one. I only decided nearly a year ago now to remedy that but I went for highest end quality and struck cheap gold thankfully every time. Sure they're uglier, out of date, total period pieces, but damnit the games still look best on them even if they do not light up. Maybe the DMG being the exception, but the Pocket, Color, and GBA SP/Micro are fantastic (even the GBA with enough light behind it.)

When I went to getting the old things back I did a little research and got a japanese nintendo made battery pack like the old GB had. It's really cool, it's a stick with a belt clip and a thin wire, and the adapter is a wall block with a clip for the stick. It works for GBP, GB Light(JP only) and GB Color as they run all the same power draw. It's a must, and can be used as an AC Adapter too. They're cheap, look into it.

True thing from the day Gameboy came out for me (christmas) 1989 Tetris never left the slot as the go-to and dust cap of sorts until Mario Golf on GBC. Never have I had a game with such fun staying power. Earlier this year I treated my daughter to her first system of her very own, a Teal immaculate Gameboy Color. She treats it well, loves her kids games, and I got her a worm light as well with it.

If you don't mind a game looking more GBA era and lower end of that scale I know something perfect...very small ROM or very cheap as a game itself. Lionel Train On Track. It's actually more or less a slightly tweaked but rebranded version of the original Railroad Tycoon for DS.

If you like 3D map 'rogue' type games, Orcs & Elves from DOOM's John Carmack is fantastic, good challenge to it.

Try any of the following:
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
Meteos
Soul Bubbles
Ivy the Kiwi?
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure
The Legendary Starfy
Super Princess Peach
Nanostray
Space Invaders Extreme
Knights in the Nightmare

Sure I can come up with more if I take a look through my backloggery.

Are you a golf fan at all, True Swing Golf is like a $5 game complete, and it's actually pretty fun. You slice the stylus over the screen to control the swing power and direction and it works really well. You gain prizes and money as you play so like Hot Shots Golf you can buy all sorts of RPG like modifiers to enhance the character and equipment. I played that one a LOT back in the day, got it as a free game from Nintendo when working for Advanced Media Network in the day to review it. Nintendo boxed it up funny with some astro turf, a ball or two, some tees, a letter and the game in a small box.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, AJ you and I have very similar taste in DS games. So far I have beaten most of Mario Hoops and have moved on to Henry Hatsworth, with Touchmaster runs before bed. Mario Hoops is actually a really solid game, i was not expecting it. I am going to have to find a copy of Mario Sports Mix now.
