It's nice to be able to test out the system right then and there, so I certainly don't mind a free copy of Tetris to sweeten the deal.
I played a lot of Gameboy as a kid. I had the original DMG-001 "Grey Brick" that I played for endless hours stuck in airports. I remember wanting a Gameboy Pocket in 1996 when they came out. There was a real hypnotic commercial "
stick it in your pocket."
But it wasn't in the cards. 1996 was a lean year for my family. C'est la vie!
Fast forward twenty years later, and I finally own a Gameboy Pocket MGB-001. I have to say that the screen is a good bit sharper, and the response time is better compared to the original.
Lucky sob, that game is worth $5 alone. Can't tell if that screen has scratches or not, but a black GBP I think is worth around $40 if all is well with it in the upper condition level of things.
Back in the day I was a big Nintendo flipper with hardware and sadly I guess I still am when it comes to handhelds. I get every version, stupidly I dump the last one. I only decided nearly a year ago now to remedy that but I went for highest end quality and struck cheap gold thankfully every time. Sure they're uglier, out of date, total period pieces, but damnit the games still look best on them even if they do not light up. Maybe the DMG being the exception, but the Pocket, Color, and GBA SP/Micro are fantastic (even the GBA with enough light behind it.)
When I went to getting the old things back I did a little research and got a japanese nintendo made battery pack like the old GB had. It's really cool, it's a stick with a belt clip and a thin wire, and the adapter is a wall block with a clip for the stick. It works for GBP, GB Light(JP only) and GB Color as they run all the same power draw. It's a must, and can be used as an AC Adapter too. They're cheap, look into it.
True thing from the day Gameboy came out for me (christmas) 1989 Tetris never left the slot as the go-to and dust cap of sorts until Mario Golf on GBC. Never have I had a game with such fun staying power. Earlier this year I treated my daughter to her first system of her very own, a Teal immaculate Gameboy Color. She treats it well, loves her kids games, and I got her a worm light as well with it.
