Sticking it to Nintendo was not a personal stick it but one of them caring so much they decided to show them how to do it since they took no interest. That game had it hit the GBA in the day or even some download bunk now probably would have easily sold into the many hundreds of thousands or more.
I forgot about the SOR one, used to have that installed off and on over the years and it was quite excellent. Outside of AM2R I did a purge not too long ago of all freeware/abandoned(legit) stuff open for grabs as I had too much paid stuff to deal with.
Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
Re: Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
Really big warning, guys and gals: Don't use Power Bombs for the final hit against the Queen Metroid. I did that twice, and on transition to the next screen, it started sending me downwards, through the map, eventually crashing on an out-of-bounds error. Use missiles instead, that seemed to work for me.
I also ran into a memory leak somewhere, and had it crash that way. Plus, towards the end, somehow, my cannon got locked into the up-right position. These are the only tells that this isn't Nintendo software, and it soured my experience slightly at the end.

Conversely, I did use a Power Bomb for the final hit and everything worked fine.

Straaaaange. Maybe I just finally got lucky. Not sure why the game hated me at that point.
Also, did you backtrack to the save point after killing all the normal Metroids?

Re: Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
No. The Metroids were easy to kill (but are always harrowing to me after a childhood of trying Tourian with Justin Bailey) so I didn't feel it necessary to traverse that far back. I figured I'd kill the Queen quickly (not realizing he buffed the fight). Died the first time, won the second time.

I backtracked for that very reason. I had a feeling he'd throw a twist in. Knowing the patterns and the way to get powerups, though, I wouldn't do it again.
Re: Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
That set of bugs is a known, seems to be more either random or certain combo of hardware dependent perhaps, but nothing I saw as of last night that's solid. It'll work for some, others it will choke and bug out.
Re: Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
I didn't use a power bomb because it died right away when I got in, but I almost did... because that's what you do in Other M haha.
Did you guys think the stuff after that was touching? Talk about the perfect prelude to Super. I personally had zero issues playing this whatsoever, pretty lucky I guess.
So did any of you get these two items? I've circled the areas:
- The far right one was a weird enigma. Green door to get in, then you need power bombs, and then it had Shinespark blocks but I have no idea how you could get in there at that angle.
- The other room was another one of those weird ball puzzles but you could not get to the ball at all from what I saw. Tried switching up the beams to see if there's something you could use to hit it that way but I have no idea.
Atmospherically, I absolutely loved:
- The Tower (and the boss here was amazing)
- The surfaced researcher ship, was half expecting Phantoon to appear
- The green Norfair like area
Frankly this is better than the Castlevania's to me. I don't say that lightly, but Metroid always wins in the end for me. The more organic and intricately complex level design, along with the fast paced controls and combat, it just doesn't get better

Re: Metroid 2 Remake AM2R Released!
I can't stand the original Metroid on NES. I think it's really aged poorly, and is a real sign of back when games were cryptic for no real reason other than to draw out their length.
The original Metroid II on the other hand, I really enjoyed. I thought the scope was much narrower in terms of the map design, so it was much harder to get lost. I thought it was a real fun little game when I played it a year or two ago. Granted, it hasn't aged well more or less because of the phenominal sequels it stands behind, but that's not so much its fault. Granted, I'm not saying it shouldn't've been remade in the Zero Mission style like this. Just that, for its time, it's a great GameBoy action-adventure game.
Downloaded AM2R, but haven't tried it yet. Been too busy with other thingies. Just wanted to talk about the original game a little, since I DO have experience with that.
