Exhuminator wrote: The sentence was grammatically correct. It is true that the sentence was phrased in such a way that two interpretations were possible. That's not uncommon with English sentences, especially when read as text, without intonation or inflection available. Since I realized that was the case there, I clarified it later.
There are not two interpretations of that sentence. The comma use was only correct for the meaning you didn't intend. For the meaning you intended to convey, your comma use was incorrect. This is important because prior to your clarification I was a little aghast at what I thought you were trying to convey.

And yes, I'm aware that, considering recent research on the grammar-correction-inclined, this makes me an asshole.

Grammar is syntax. Meaning is semantics. I can construct a grammatically correct sentence with zero semantic content.

As stolen from the English variant of Stack Overflow:
Noam Chomsky famously used the sentence "Colorless green ideas sleep furiously". The syntax is flawless, but it has no meaning.

It can given adequate context:

"It can only be the thought of verdure to come, which prompts us in the autumn to buy these dormant white lumps of vegetable matter covered by a brown papery skin, and lovingly to plant them and care for them. It is a marvel to me that under this cover they are labouring unseen at such a rate within to give us the sudden awesome beauty of spring flowering bulbs. While winter reigns the earth reposes but these colourless green ideas sleep furiously." -CM Street ( http://www.indiana.edu/~gasser/L503/ideas.html )

In the age of the internet, grammar can't really be saved. On the other hand, I do enjoy a little bit of pedantry, on occasion.
I raised a beautiful young woman, who is well adjusted in society, and wouldn't let a man mistreat her for anything in the world.
Two clauses joined by "and" must be separated by a comma (FANBOYS). Therefore, the comma is appropriate. However, there is an issue of pronoun ambiguity. It could be addressed in a variety of ways. One example: "I raised a beautiful young woman, who is well adjusted in society, and [she] wouldn't let a man mistreat her for anything in the world." Crisis averted.

Also:
Noam Chomsky famously used the sentence "Colorless green ideas sleep furiously". The syntax is flawless, but it has no meaning.
This is bullshit. Periods and commas always belong inside the closing quotation mark.

adding she to the sentence with no disparity
it does enhance the meaning's core clarity
but with proper intonation said verbally
we'd destroy all this hyperbole

Only in American English. In British English the opposite is true.

Makes more sense to me too. If the full stop or comma wasn't part of the initial quote it shouldn't be included in it.

U rappin' COOL.

Also, I'm American, but I use British punctuation rules. I think it's more consistent and logical. Although it could likely go either way here, because the period can either terminate the entire sentence, or just the quote itself, which also had a period.
