universal arcade stick?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I have just now convinced myself that this is way to easy of a mod NOT to do it. Sucks that the stick is utter crap right out of the box but atleast its simple to "enhance". I guess my only concern is that the quality of the housing for the stick may be sub-par and might possibly flex under the stress of furious button mashing, especially once you remove the black piece that seems to give support to where the button pcb once was. Can anyone vouch to this things sturdiness or lack thereof?

it seems to be sturdy enough unless you punch your buttons. i got mine yesterday and yes the joystick is complete SHIT. the buttons suck ass too. im waiting on my sanwa buttons to come in from lizard lick, but a quick question to the modders here WHAT KIND OF WIRING WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR SOLDERING BUTTONS TO THE PCB?? im thinking of going to radio shack just picking up some cheap different colored wires

i use 22awg stranded wire or thicker. you really cant go wrong, i've used speaker wire in a pinch, but you want something smaller in this case since soldering to the board for the buttons will be a bit tight.

Well thats good to hear, I'll probably get around to doing this sometime this month. Also I second the 22 stranded; it's small enough to make it easy o solder with and big enough to handle most any current you'd find on a pcb. I'd be interested in seeing your final product if you wouldnt mind IcKy :D

22 or 28. 22 if your soldering both ends, 28 if your using quick connects.

Personally I use quick connects, but thats because I am paranoid and like future proofing.

Anyone here do their Mayflash mod yet? Just curious.

I've been sitting on the whole thing myself. Got to get the funds for the new stick and buttons and decide whether I want to hire someone or do it myself.

I actually ended up selling the stick to someone on the forum this week. I just wasn't getting good at SHMUPs with it. Maybe I'd be better with a different one, but I think it's just me. I didn't spend a lot of time in the arcades as a lad, mostly gaming at home. Funny thing is, I play SHMUPs best with an analog stick. Go figure.

Anyway, maybe I'll try again later. If I do though, I'll probably get something nicer with a HAPP stick on it. The Japanese style sticks feel too small to me, and I'm not a fan of the ball top.
